I'm not a big doofus or anything, oh, no, not me. It's not as though watching several hours of British dramas has me walking around the house talking to myself in an overdramatic, bad, hybrid English/Welsh accent or anything.

(Will I ever say the word "Owen" in a proper American accent again, I wonder?)

[Edit: And did anyone else get acquainted with "House" before Hugh Laurie's other work, and find his English accent to feel just weird?]

You should hear me after a few minutes of talking to Scottish people. I'm surprised nobody's declared blood feud on me for it...

Heh. I knew his work beforehand but I keep forgetting it's the same guy and saying things like, 'but I thought he was British?' Sometimes if I see him in another movie I won't recognize him because I'm too used to his House voice and mannerisms.

I've been watching House since it began, but the only reason I watched it was because I was such a huge fan of Laurie (and Stephen Fry) beforehand.

I still want Fry to show up on House as a patient, or better yet, a fussy officious visiting doctor who knew House in med school or something. :)

I first saw Laurie in "Jeeves and Wooster," so the American accent and House mannerisms are still occasionally rather jarring.

House is polar opposite to his character in Blackadder and its hard to forget.

What have you been watching (British dramas)?

I saw Hugh Laurie in other things first. I remembered him most as "Mr. Palmer" in "Sense & Sensibility" but I'm sure I'd seen in a lot of other things as well.

Dr. Who
MI5
Torchwood

I've been having a blast with Netflix lately. MI5 is in instant-view, even.

Try Jekyll. You may like it.

I've loved Hugh Laurie for years, and his american accent drives me up the wall. It's nasty and nasall-y and jarring.

Oh, I will, thanks.

Not having seen him without the American accent first, I have to say it sounds natural and American to me, and I can normally spot fake American accents faster than the folks around me.

Sorry, I've been watching him since "Fry & Laurie". But it is almost easier to think of him as a different person with the American accent.
