So obviously, I have a teenager now. She's a great kid, and very helpful around the house. (The other day, she woke up and did the dishes before starting her game, without being asked, so she wouldn't have to worry about chores while she played. Stuff like that.)

Anyway, she's looking for paid work. As soon as we get her ID sorted out, she's going to put in applications at the local businesses that are appropriate, but she'd also be happy to help out any of you who need her to do stuff.

If you have any work for [livejournal.com profile] wtfpotatoes that you think would be appropriate (yard work, housework, basic office admin stuff, etc.), please let one of us know. Her email address is her user ID without the e, at aim.com.

We're starting the kitchen remodel on Monday. Would she be interested, when it's done, in coming down here and helping me put things back together? $100 plus I'd cover her BART fare plus I'd feed her :). I'm not at all sure of the date, but I could give her a better idea once things get started.

She would totally love that, and I'm sure she'd do it for less, but you didn't hear it from me. And hey, maybe you can get your suitcase back! *chagrined smile*

But I wouldn't pay less :):).

No biggie about the suitcase, hon. I'll get it when I get it :):).

Does she babysit? We're frequently in the market for babysitters.

She says she's not comfortable watching babies, but she'd be happy to talk to you about babysitting. (I, of course, would provide any necessary backup/support, if you two decide that's what you want to do.) Thanks!

Oh, by the way, you're probably gonna get a hello today from R, whom I ran into at the Berkeley Bowl today. Her hair looks great with the green stripe.

!!! And she wasn't appreciated at home?? Of course, maybe she didn't do that at home, she could be trying to make sure you're happy having her. Still, wow.

She was very helpful at home, but she has a (perfectly normal, very-mildly-annoying) manner sometimes that drives my mother up a wall. She and my mother got into this loop where they couldn't manage to be civil to each other for more than a few minutes at a time.

When I spoke to my mom, she totally copped to the fact that the disrespectful way the kid was talking to her was mirroring the way she herself was being talked to, but a few years of trying hadn't made it any better, so we all decided to try something new.

Totally the right choice.

We realized today that she's been here a month now. I think the honeymoon isn't quite over, but mostly, and we're still really enjoying having her here. It's such a relief for me to have her out of that toxic environment, too, as you can imagine.

I am moving this week and have fallen ridiculously behind on dishes. I'd love her assistance (maybe on Tuesday night?). She would wash; I would dry and pack them up as she finished. I don't anticipate it taking longer than two hours, probably not more than an hour. I was thinking it would pay about $20 an hour, for a minimum of $30, or whatever she thinks is fair.
