Google maps now (though I'm just noticing this, it may not be new) lets one choose among "by car", "by public transit", and "walking" in its search results. It just did a GREAT job of finding me a bus route to the reading tonight. Way cool!
For Toronto, it offers driving and walking instructions. Which is an improvement.
No transit or bike directions yet. I think it depends on whether or not your local transit system has bought into Google's route finder options. Ours opted not to. Regarding bike directions, I can keep hoping. :)
As it turns out, the "walking" directions appear to be much better routes than the "driving" directions for several locations in my little town. For some reason, Googlemaps has always tried to send drivers the long way 'round to get to my house, for instance...
Google gave ass directions for the bus to Foothill College from Caltrain. It made it look like it was a two bus trip! (Talking to the lady at VTA straightened me out, and by the way, she rocked.) So, one must try to double check some way or another, at least while they're in Beta.
