Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] autographedcat and [livejournal.com profile] epi_lj on an alt.poly thread, I've started a new blog to collect healthy love songs. You know, stuff without icky stalker undertones (or overtones). Basically, nothing off Melissa Etheridge's early albums will be on this list.

Anyway, check it out if you want: http://healthylovesongs.blogspot.com

I had to laugh at your "no early Melissa Etheridge". It's *so* true. :)

ETA: Also, I contribute "Power of Two" by the Indigo Girls to the list. :)

Yes, definitely. Also, Rogers' "Forty-Five Years," which is something [livejournal.com profile] adrian_turtle and I keep alluding to when we talk about being together long-term.

Not a love song in the traditional sense, and I don't know enough to really identify it because I only heard it once, but.

There's a song, probably bluegrass or classic country because I heard it on WDVX, about a young man (or possibly boy) going for rides with an older woman in her Cadillac (or maybe Chevrolet). Then there's a bit where they drift apart, and it ends with him picking her up at the nursing home and taking her for rides.

"Leaving on a Jet Plane" doesn't make it because of the adulterous overtones (clearly cheating, not honest poly).

How about Last Train to Clarksville (http://www.lyricsfreak.com/m/monkees/last+train+to+clarksville_20095498.html), which is of the "I love you, and I'm being sent off to war and may die; come say goodbye before I go" genre?

John and Mary (http://www.cowboylyrics.com/tabs/third-tyme-out/john-and-mary-1527.html), although you might not prefer that since it's pretty strongly religious.

Country Bumpkin (http://www.actionext.com/names_c/cal_smith_lyrics/country_bumpkin.html), even with the apparent insult; over the course of the song it becomes a loving nickname.

Sweet Caroline (http://www.lyricsfreak.com/n/neil+diamond/sweet+caroline_20098802.html)

Weekend in New England (http://www.lyricsfreak.com/n/neil+diamond/sweet+caroline_20098802.html)

People seem to be very fond of great big sea; I am also fond of Graceful and Charming (Sweet Forget Me Not) if only because i love hearing someone "of her I am so fond."

Also, the song I mentioned in the a.p thread's lyrics can be found here (http://www.ratsy.com/fs-lyrics.html#fbs).

So is it okay if I copy (with attribution) your a.p post about that one, or would you prefer I just post the lyrics?

From: [identity profile] epi-lj.livejournal.com
It's okay if you repost it if you think there was something valuable to repost.

Yeah, I liked your commentary. How shall I attribute you (name/link)?

There are two choices. You can use If or epi_lj and link to my journal, or you can use my real name and link to http://www.ramp-music.net/ . Your call which you think fits better -- I'm cool with either (but not both).

I left a comment on the new blog, but redundancy is useful in communication: "Kisses Sweeter than Wine," by the Weavers.

Also, you might want to put a "send suggestions here" link on that blog. And how would you feel about me advertising it more broadly?

From: [identity profile] serenejournal.livejournal.com
Done, and thanks for the suggestion! I would LOVE it if you posted a link or something. I think this is a fun (and low-investment) project for me for those times when I just can't think clearly enough to write a long essay about something. :-)
