I think I may have a cold. I don't *want* a cold, but it reinforces my plan to spend the whole weekend resting and puttering around my house.

Used to be I couldn't do the randomize-your-music-player memes, because I had a stack of CDs that weren't on a music player, but now I have my own personal jukebox, so I stole this from [livejournal.com profile] micheinnz:

Put your music player on random.
Post the first line from the first 32 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Let everyone guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Cross out the songs when someone guesses correctly.
Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!

(I'm also leaving out the ones that have the song title as the first line -- too easy.)

1. A woman came up to me and said "I'd like to poison your mind"
2. They only show you their gums when they smile

3. Night, lift up the shades
4. All your bitterness and lies sting like tears in my eyes
5. God has smiled upon you this day
6. Won't have you see me as your sad sack
7. Words fail, buildings tumble, the ground opens wide
8. I could never sleep my way to the top

9. Mary, have you seen better days?
10. I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness

11. I left my anger in a river running highway five
12. Once I said I knew, but I don't know no more
13. I lit out from Reno, I was trailed by twenty hounds
14. Don't know if it was real or in a dream
15. Leaves were falling just like embers
16. Crickets are chirpin', the water is high
17. I'd rather be a sparrow than a snail

18. Laughing in a crowd of jewels
19. Now the reason we're here as man and woman is to love each other
20. Frail hinges pivot on a case`s door
21. Beggin' down these sunbeaten streets, I can't make me no connection
22. Fell in the door and you fell on the floor
23. Once upon a midnight dearie, I woke with something in my head

24. Now we can say that nothing's lost
25. Love, thing of might and dread
26. Ev'rything comes and goes
27. Feels like nothin' happens fast enough
28. Are you gonna take me home tonight
29. Wanna wake up and know where I'm going
30. When I met you in the restaurant, you could tell I was no debutante
31. Early in the evenin', just about suppertime
32. She was beautiful as Southern skies the night he met her

31. CCR, Down on the Corner

"Midnight dreary" is from the line it's spoofing.

13 is "Friend of the Devil," and I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that it's the Lyle Lovett version, rather than Garcia/the Dead.

From: [identity profile] serenejournal.livejournal.com
Nope, it's the Dead. I ripped [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy's CDs while I was at it. :-)

10 is TMBG too. I can hear the song, but I can't remember the title, which probably means it's off of John Henry. I Should be allowed to think?

19 AAAAAARRGGGGH!! Too many songs with almost the same lyrics!!! I keep hearing David Byrne singing it, but Annie Lennox butts in before he can get to the next line, and while they're fighting Wayne Fontana and the Mind Benders start singing "Game of Love" and I know that's wrong.

16: Man in a long black coat. Written by Bob Dylan, most likely you are referring to the recording by Joan Osborne.

We are doing a dance to this song in the fall show choreographed by moi. :)

3. Is a Sarah McLachlan song, but I'm useless for most song titles. 4. Is a Richard Thompson, I think. 27. is a Bonnie Raitt.
