1) Mom's home and already overexerting herself. Ah, well, she's a grown
woman, and if she ends up back in the hospital, it will be its own
punishment.

2) I told folks I'd be mailing books on Tuesday. Well, um, Tuesday's a US
holiday. Make that Wednesday, please.

3) Luna Bars. Really? People EAT those? That may be the foulest thing I've
put into my mouth in months.

4) [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy is making pizza again tonight, so that will get
the taste of the icky Luna Bars out of my mouth.

5) The Alison Bechdel thing at Cal is tomorrow at 4. Anyone up for it?

i'll forgive you this one time ;)

Yeah, especially comemorative ones that aren't somebody's birthday.

Yeah, but then the people with the MWF class schedules get ALL the holidays. I'm grateful to be getting a Tuesday off. Any day is a good day, but a holiday from classes creates a true break for me. Seems like Veterans' Day is mostly observed by government and academic offices, anyway.

Oh, good point. :-)

(Plus, I like broken-up weeks more than long weekends, but I do sometimes wonder why they don't move everything to long weekends.)

Oh good, someone else who doesn't like those. I thought they tasted like guinea pig food smells.

From: [identity profile] serenejournal.livejournal.com
The smell almost dissuaded me from even trying them, but so many people have told me how great they are. Oh, man, that was FOUL. :-)

I was similarly persuaded and regret it intensely. Blech.

Luna bars are like Gatorade. If they taste good, you really needed one.

Oh, that's interesting. I've heard that about Gatorade, but it's so damned yucky to me that I've never reached for it when I'm really thirsty, preferring to grab some water. Since I can't think of anything in Luna Bars that I can't get from food and water, I think I'll pass. :-)

IMHO, the gulf between the best Luna/Clif bar flavours (reasonably tasty) and the worst ones (horrid) is pretty wide. I never used to be bothered with them either, but have since found a handful that I like.

As for Gatorade, it always tastes to me like it should be cut half for half with water, and other brands of sport drink are even more sickly. The folks that make the stuff must be listening, because their "Gatorade Rain" flavours pretty much taste like watered-down ordinary Gatorade.

Gatorade isn't tasty if you are just very thirsty. It's more when you are so dehydrated that your heart rate is 135 and you're shaking all over.

Luna bars are portable and useful after a fasting blood draw or something, if one's blood sugar is a little touchy. But a banana might work as well. It's just that when I try to travel with bananas they get squished.

Good luck to your mom!

My younger son was into a few of the Luna Bar flavors (such as Peanut-Butter Cookie) for a while -- as he pretty much only eats organic vegan food, I would buy them by the box to take along on trips to be sure of having things he would eat far away from the SF Bay area. These days he eats (among other things) Crispy Cat bars instead.

I don't like Luna bars but I do like Trader Joe's granola bars, the ones that have peanut butter (there are two kinds).

No spoons for Alison, sorry.

I tried the chocolate/peppermint and the lemon. Are there flavors you like?

Heh. My SO tersely summarizes the lemon bars as "tastes like pledge".

The Luna Sunrise strawberry & blueberry bars are decent, but that's a different kettle of fish, I suppose.

Heh. I like both of those. Kevin loves the lemon and the oatmeal/raisin. I also like the Nutz Over Chocolate flavor. I've been eating them for probably 8 years now.

Glad your mom is home hope she takes it easy but I doubt it.
I like what I think is called Tiger milk bars but only the peanut butter. The other protein bars I have tried always have the texture to me of gooey sawdust YUCK!

Luna bars tend to be more tasty than Clif bars. When you're trying to deal with hypoglycemia and an 8-hour workday in a lab without kitchen facilities, one is sometimes forced to resort to drastic measures.

In other words, sometimes I have to eat meal-bars. Luna bars tend to be the least offensive of the available options in that scenario.

You don't have to eat meal bars. I've had days like that, with hypoglycemia, and I tasted my first meal bars today. Clearly, I survived. :-)

I'm sure that there are other things that I could eat. But nothing as *convenient as a meal bar. And really, I'm just lazy like that. Cheap, fairly filling, and can be eaten without leaving my desk at work.

The building I work in has neither fridge nor kitchen. So the options are rather limited for snacks.

I used to like many, though never all, flavors of Luna bars. I'm not sure if they reformulated for the worse, or I burned out on them, or both, but yeah, not so much any more. The Sunrise bars are better, but I've gotten tired of them, too.

Likewise the Kashi bars -- ok for a while, but then burned out.
