So I suck at putting webpages together, but I have a helpful and longsuffering boyfriend or two, and I'm plugging away. My ass is tired of all the sitting, and my kitchen isn't cleaning itself, but the magazine's website should be live today, as planned. Yay! (Don't go there now; it's the old site still. I'll let you know when I'm done.)

Are you doing it in straight HTML and CSS or are you using a CMS (content management system)?

Wordpress? No, there's no blog on the site yet, though there will be. Is that what you were asking?

As I confirmed at Wordcamp at the beginning of October, Wordpress can also be used for static pages. The two websites I'm porting over will have lots of static pages. Because it's an open source content management system, the website owners will be able to do their own ongoing maintenance once I complete the process.

The other open source CMSs (that I'll be looking at later), which are appropriate for slightly different uses are Joomla and Drupal. Drupal is supposed to be good for robust larger scake sites and Joomla is a good multi-purpose CMS that will handle commercial functions. But that's as much as I know - I still have much to learn.

Nah, I'm just hand-coding this in a text editor (medit on Ubuntu). Do you find it's significantly better to use a CMS? If so, why?
