It's not usually hard for me to come up with stuff, but today, I'm a woman on the edge*, and while I'm appreciative of all the good things in my life, I'm not riding on a wave of joy or anything.
Some of the good things:
- My partners
- My truly stress-and-drama-free circle of friends -- this took work,
and I'm proud of myself - Feeling like there are people in my life who, even though they rarely
or never see me, really value my part in their lives - New notebooks and pens. A huge splurge at six dollars today, it was
the closest I felt to really happy. - Fruit cups
- Figuring out my timesheet and seeing that I'll have between seven and
eight paid days off this month. That's awesome. - This Giftmas, my mom's not in the hospital.
- I had enough money to buy a little gift for
wtfpotatoes for
Giftmas, and will get paid in time to get her a gift and a party for her
birthday. These things are very important to me.
1.) Where did you ring in 2008?
Probably at home. I'll go look. *looks* Ah. In my bed. :-)
2.) What was your status by Valentine's Day?
My status? Romantic status? I had two partners, and still do.
3.) Were you in school (anytime this year)?
No, but I work at the local university.
4.) How did you earn your keep?
Blojobs. But for money, I work at the local university and do other
part-time work as I can get it.
5.) Did you have to go to the hospital?
Wayyyy too many times, but not as a patient.
6.) Did you have any encounters with the police?
Sort of.
7.) Where did you go on vacation?
I didn't, not exactly. Mom was in the hospital a few times, so I did a lot
of traveling, but not vacationish stuff.
8.) What did you purchase that was over $500?
Nothing that I can think of.
9.) Did you know anybody who got married?
Yes. Lots of people, especially same-sex couples.
10.) Did you know anybody who passed away?
I don't think so, but I am always afraid of answering these questions,
because I have a horrendous memory for details like this, especially as
they relate to time, and I'm always afraid someone will say "*Gasp* --
Serene, so-and-so died and was your dear friend! How could you forget?!?"
11.) Have you run into anybody you graduated high school with?
Just on Facebook. She's married with two kids now. She taught at my high
school for a while in the '90s, I think.
12.) Did you move anywhere?
Nope.
13.) What sporting events did you go to?
None. No great loss.
14.) What concerts/shows did you go to?
I can't think of any, but see my anxiety in #10.
15.) Are you registered to vote?
I so totally am.
16.) If so, did you do your patriotic duty on [last time you were supposed
to vote]?
Of course!
17.) Where do you live now?
In a basement apartment in Oakland, California. For going on five years now.
18.) Describe your birthday.
Describe it? Um, it's usually on a hot day in September. Oh, you mean
what I did this year? Let me go look: Hung out with
19.) What's the one thing you thought you would never do but did in 2008?
Stop having sex with women. ;-) (I didn't stop on purpose; it's a
circumstantial thing.)
20.) What is one thing you regret from this year?
Oooh, that's a tough one.
21.) What do you want for Christmas?
Enough sleep.
22.) Any new additions to your family?
Sort of.
us in June. I'm really glad she did.
23.) What was your best month?
Dunno. I don't really think that way, and it's been a pretty rough year,
all told.
24.) What from pop culture will you remember 2008 by?
Oh, I won't. Remember 2008 in relation to pop culture, that is. :-)
25.) How do you plan to ring in 2009?
I'm going on my first New Year's date ever, with
The version going around now has some slightly different questions.
They asked for about any purchases over $1000 - and since I don't think
there were any over $500, this one is moot.
What has been your favorite moment? Too many to count, but I gotta tellya
what, my first day at work was pretty damn hoopy.
What's something you learned about yourself? - I really love going to work
and doing clerical stuff for people.
Who has been your best drinking buddy? - I don't have drinking buddies.
Made new friends? - Nope.
New best friend? - I don't have just one best friend.
Favourite Night Out? It's silly, but probably the other night when
we really didn't mind being lost together.
*(Sleep deprivation and protracted extended-family sorrow have taken their
toll. I feel a crash coming on.)
