I hate it when that happens...I still remember 10 years ago when a co-worker I'd really liked called me after I'd stepped away from my desk literally for 30 seconds...got back and she'd left a message but no phone number, and I never heard from her again.

She comes back the 26th, and we're having our Giftmas on the 27th, to give her a chance to get some rest and wind down if necessary. Then her birthday's about a week later.
