Yesterday, mostly for my benefit.

I was at work when I discovered the [livejournal.com profile] stonebender needed some help so that [livejournal.com profile] loracs could go see [livejournal.com profile] dbubley at the hospital (see below), so I had this brilliant flash of efficiency -- instead of taking the bus to the doctor, then going home and getting the car and heading to [livejournal.com profile] stonebender's, I'd stop home for the car first, because that would save me time. Hah! Took me 45 minutes to park. I was late for the appointment, and then got stuck in traffic. If I'd done the entire trip on the bus, I'd've been at [livejournal.com profile] stonebender's at least an hour sooner. *sigh*

Anyway, the doctor ended up being the one I'd wanted. He looked at my records and my vocal cords -- did you know they can stick a scope up your nose and down your throat to do that? Did you know it's very uncomfortable?

Well, everything looks good, and the doctor addressed all my questions, and was very earnest and helpful (and, of course, he's like fourteen years old). His name is Dr. Gurushanthaiah, but his staff calls him Dr. G., wonder why?

I'll be getting the surgery next month some time, and won't need to miss any significant amount of work. I'll probably not even have to spend the night in the hospital. Oh, and he says he'll try to clean up my scar and make it "prettier". What. EVer. :-)

He agreed with the endo -- if they take out the thyroid and a few lymph nodes, and there's no cancer at all, he doesn't see a need for the radioactive iodine, but if there's any cancer at all, he thinks I should do it. I'm fine with that.

[livejournal.com profile] dbubley has to have surgery to find out if she has renal cancer. Between that and everything else (even the DOG had to go to the doctor today), we're wondering when the twenty-seventh shoe will drop around here. When we're not crying, we're cracking up about it. (And while I was at [livejournal.com profile] stonebender's, at 1:30 in the morning, I got a text from [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy saying he was in the ER with [livejournal.com profile] sogwife for a probable UTI. I guess it's the kid's turn to get sick next. Hope she skips her turn.)

But I'm doing fine, maybe too fine (meaning maybe later I'll crash, but for now I feel genuinely fine), and I plan to spend some time today doing what I do when I'm stressed, which is cook for people. Miss [livejournal.com profile] dbubley likes my cooking, so she's getting some real, non-hospital food this evening.

And then tomorrow, radio silence, as I pile [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy and some food in the car, and head off for wherever, just the two of us, no cellphones, no nothin'.

(Oh, and we'll be picking up at least one guinea pig today. Oy.)
