MI-5/Spooks
Still really liking this. I think I just finished Series 5. I understand people's objections to it, but it is really satisfying to me, and it fixes some of the objections I have about other spy series, namely that spies never die or do anything seriously wrong in a lot of spy series. Also, I like that our team is fighting against the people in the government who want to expand governmental powers at the expense of personal liberties.
The State Within
Essentially, this feels like a hit piece against the PATRIOT Act, and so far, I like it. Sharon Gless isn't my favorite actor ever, but she does well here, and in general, it feels like it's going to be entertaining enough that it doesn't get preachy, but I've only seen two episodes, so we'll see.
Secret Diary of a Callgirl
Gosh, I really like this. I think Billie Piper is just charming, and I feel like this show was made by My People -- that is, people who don't find sex or sex work inherently icky or freak-show-ish, and who believe that a woman can choose sex work for reasons other than desperation. (Which is not to say that the vast majority of sex workers aren't exploited, which I don't think can change until decriminalization and unionization, but still.)
The Last Detective
I kind of like this. It's quiet and flawed, like its title character. (Funny note: I originally mistook him for Peter Firth, and still think he reminds me of him, but who he is is Peter Davison, who was The Doctor in the '80s.)
