Radioactive Iodine Day One, in four easy steps:

1) Get engrossed in Black Betty and miss your bus stop.

2) Continue reading Black Betty while walking to catch the bus back the other way, so that when you trip and fall, your hands are not free to stop your nose and forehead from smashing into the pavement.

3) Call and scare your boyfriend and have him come drive you to the hospital so you can stop by the ER before you're radioactive.

4) Take a little pill with iodine in it.

Ta-da! Easy as pie.

(I'm fine, just banged up. [livejournal.com profile] wild_irises, your book now has my blood on it. I will buy you a new one.)

Ouch! Fifteen or so years of reading-while-walking has never seen me plunge to the pavement. Sorry it happened to you.

On the other hand this sounds quite a bit like a Superheroine Origin Story.

Yikes, I hope the remaining Radioactive Iodine Days are only eventful in good ways!

My younger son has a 1.5" cut on his forehead right now from getting scraped by a tree branch Friday (a few hours before he was going to be performing on stage, so he was not happy to be marked up at that time), and a local person I know somehow just got a forehead cut and black eye while dancing.

I have a lot of experience with kind of steering my children along and keeping them out of trouble when they are reading and walking at the same time.

Audio books. On an ipod. Really. :)

Sadly, audiobooks do not work for me. They don't count as reading, and my attention wanders from them often enough that I don't get any usable content out of them whatsoever.

And what will you do for your encore performance?
Glad it's not more serious, the fall that is.

This is a danger of hypo that I had not previously considered.

I hope you heal up fast.

Nah, the blood is just an added attraction. It will dry.

And you will mend.

I'll be thinking of you in seclusion and I'll see you as soon as you're safe.

I totally read that as Black Beauty, and was all like, "well, yeah, it's engrossing!"

Black Betty is just your basic detective story, but better in the writing-and-narrative departments than most, and with a really morally ambiguous hero (antihero?). So yes, engrossing, but also quite light-readingish.

When my kitty was treated with radioactive iodine, I had to save all her poop for a month, and then let it sit for two weeks (or was it "collect for two weeks, sit for a month"?) until the radiation broke down. There was an incredibly frightening trash bag out in the backyard for a while. Do people have to do this? Because if so UGH.
