Hey, beadcraft folks!
Aug. 10th, 2011 10:17 pmMy old friend
glitterophelia (well, she's young, but we've known each other a long time, since '98 or '99) has had a horrible few years (kidney surgery; homeless shelters with her two small children because of inability to work after kidney surgery; and recently she crushed her leg and ankle in a freak accident and is using a wheelchair while she learns to walk again). She's a beadcrafter, but had to leave her beading supplies behind in her last move.
If you have extra beads or beading supplies you can spare to ship to this wonderful young woman who's trying to get back on an even keel by finding work she can do from home, could you please let me know and I'll get her address to you?
Or if you want me to buy her some beads (or if you want to donate to getting her a wheelchair after her state takes away her wheelchair next month; we found one on Amazon for around $150), please send money to serene@serenepages.org. Things are tough all over, so no worries if you can't or don't want to. Just thought I'd ask.

Date: 2011-08-11 10:36 pm (UTC)"As far as beads go, I usually use glass or swarvoski (sp?) crystals. I stay away from plastic beads and micro beads (usually used for weaving beads and I am afraid I'm terrible at that.) I like glass beads of all kinds. I use some metal too. I use metal pendants as well, particularly things like pentacles and such, or keys or ankhs. crystals and glass beads can often be found cheaply on ebay, at least that's the way i used to buy them. there are good suppliers on there that sell beads much cheaper than the likes of Michaels or other craft stores. I can't speak for bead stores themselves, sometimes they have good deals as well (the one here is kinda pricey though and doesn't have that good of selection unless you want the micro beads or funky wooden beads).i also have a weakness for cameos. i hope this helps."
