Learning notes
Sep. 11th, 2011 11:13 pmThese will be cut-tagged, in case you don't want to wade through all the burbling I intend to do about all the new stuff I'm learning.
ASL:
Read the introduction to the book (yes, I'm that kind) and learned a bit about Deaf culture and ASL's history. The book is designed for immersion classes, which I hope this will be.
Read the intro to the book. As the other did, this one warned against trying to learn the new language while holding too tightly to English. It's a pitfall I'm aware of, but I still appreciate the reminders.
The book is dry (I've read five or six chapters), but the fact that I'm not always following it is also due to my lack in grammar education. I'm a natural at languages, including my own,and I often don't know the names for things I use with ease. Also, I missed the year in school when my peers learned to diagram sentences. This will be a useful course for me.
