Jul. 15th, 2002 07:41 amGot about three hours of sleep last night this morning, and I'll be lucky to stay awake at my desk. The feeling is kind of cool, however, the stoned feeling of sleep deprivation (sometimes I feel it as a stoned feeling, sometimes as the jitters; I prefer the former). Depending on how I feel at lunch time, I may take some vacation hours and leave early. So nice to have that option. Makes me really feel for the millions of workers who couldn't leave early if they wanted to, and wouldn't get paid for it even if they did (I mean, I was one of those workers for a long time; thankfully, my middle-class background kept that from being a desperate situation).
Cute-poet-chick restrained herself from bringing home a stray kitten from the library the other day. I'm so glad. I mean, I love The Wicked Stepcat, I do, but he's sixteen years old, has always been an only child, and costs a fortune to keep healthy and happy.
Turns out Hidden Valley buttermilk recipe salad-dressing mix is vegan, so I made some with Vegenaise and soymilk, and it was soooo yummy. It was cool having creamy salad dressing again.
Yummy vegan boy and I are still good friends, and still spend a lot of time together online (and a little on the phone), but he's making it work again with his (monogamous, jealous) ex, so instead of being my future-ex-boyfriend, I guess he's now my ex-future-ex-boyfriend. Between that and hearing from TOTGA last week, and the emotional fallout from the trip to the homestead (and, possibly, the Pill -- I don't know -- has it ever made any of you mildly depressed?), I really struggled with a mild blanket of The Dumps this weekend. I dealt with it by spending all day Saturday going to movies with my dad and the non-wicked stepmom, and then Sunday doing nothing except eating, making more to eat, and catching up on Usenet.
Last week, I got an email from KPBS saying they had some extra (read: free) tickets to Three Mo' Tenors for the asking. I asked. Mom and I (mom loves the original Three Tenors, and I've seen the new group on TV, and she'll adore them) are going to be in the eighth row orchestra (retail price: $158 for the pair) next Wednesday night, after a champagne reception. (And I think I'll take her to the new sushi buffet beforehand. Either that, or go to the Spanish place that cute-poet-chick took me to for our anniversary. Mom will like tasting some of the stuff we had in Spain, and she'll *adore* the lobster bisque with the pastry shell. We'll see if I end up having enough cash to do that and Pride and cute-poet-chick's birthday. Now that I write that all down, I'm thinking probably no. Especially since we also want to paint mom's living room as a birthday present. Argh. So many ideas, so little money for implementation.
Still so very addicted to Trading Spaces. It's been a very long time since I lost sleep over a TV show. Oh, and the new series Monk was a lot less annoying than I thought it was gonna be. It's actually good.
This week, I'll get my very first overtime check. I never work overtime, but I filled in for my cow-orker last Monday, and I should get an extra fifty dollars. Couldn't have come at a better time, because I just bought this for Munchkin The Elder. "Aunt San," says zie, "you are the best!" (Zie asked for the thing; I would never have guessed it was what zie wanted "More than anything else in the whole world.") I'm the best. Whee!
My YA novel is giving me great pleasure. Not one I'm reading; one I'm writing. For the first time in my life, I'm writing a piece of fiction in which the ending is clear to me before I get to, well, the actual writing of the ending. I know how it's gonna play out, know what lessons will be learned, know who will shine and who will flop, and it's an amazing feeling. I have a really good vibe going on, and now all I hope is that I'm able to sustain it. My biggest problem (as you may well know) is verbosity, so what I'm doing is allowing myself to go on and on for now. Later I will go back and trim the hell out of the puppy.
More (probably much more) later, as I use this little LJ client window as a wakefulness aid. I really don't want to rely on caffeine, as I hate hate hate the feeling I get when caffeine is the only thing keeping me awake. I may cave, though. That's what god made teabags for.

Date: 2007-01-17 09:32 am (UTC)I love watching TRADING PLACES too, because I love to always redecorate my room. It’s a great show - I get wonderful design ideas and its fun. Also, their design ideas are inexpensive that I really apply their ideas into my own room.
I also enjoy watching MONK. It’s not annoying as you thought. It’s funny and often, Monk’s unusual way of solving a crime is very amusing and interesting.
Good luck on that novel you are writing :)
