What. A. Week!

I say that a lot these days, don't I? But oh, man, whatta week. I won a prize and met Lorna Dee Fucking Cervantes, wrote three papers, including a short story, navigated some potentially dramatic relationship stuff that didn't turn out to be (oh, yeah, I forgot I chose low-drama family members), finished week 3 of 10 at school, got offered a full-time position at work doing the same job I'm doing now part-time, at which I worked my ASS off this week, and it's only Thursday!

Saturday is Cal Day, and I've committed to making cookies for it. The kid was gonna come over tonight and make them with me, but she's not up for it, so

I

Have

An

Evening

Of

Downtime!!

(I'm gonna chip away at my homework, but I have until Monday before anything's due, James is making dinner, and oh, goodness, downtime!)

***********FOODOLOGY***************
1. What is your salad dressing of choice?
I am a total salad-dressing slut. As long as it's not bottled creamy stuff, which all has an off taste to me, I pretty much love it (bottled vinaigrettes are fine, as are almost all homemade dressings, and my family standard growing up is still a fave: just plain extra-virgin olive oil and salt)

2. What is your favourite sit-down restaurant?
It's not there any more, but there was this Italian restaurant in San Diego that I just loved. I have yet to taste gnocchi as good, and they made this mushroom appetizer that I still crave sometimes.

3. What food could you eat every day for two weeks and not get sick of?
Anything I like. I have a high tolerance for monotony.

4. What are your pizza toppings of choice?
For me, onions are a must. I can't be bothered with pizza without onions. After that, pretty much anything goes, except ham or hot pineapple (I'm fine with the pineapple once it's cooled).

5. What do you like to put on your toast?
Butter. Sometimes butter and jam or honey.

***********TECHNOLOGY***************

1. How many televisions are in your house?
Just the one, but we watch a fair bit of "television" as Netflix or other online content, so our computers may count, and if they do, the answer is closer to four or five.

2. What colour cell phone do you have?
It's either black or dark blue; I can't tell in this light.

3. How many computers are in your house?
Not counting things like our dumbphones and fitbits and stuff, let's see:

My desktop
James's desktop
The spare desktop that used to be the kid's backup machine before she moved
The eeePC we never use
The iPad
The iPod Touch
James's barely functional laptop

I think that's it.

4. Have any idea how many Megahertz your computer has?
No idea. How would I find that out?

***************BIOLOGY******************

1. Are you right-handed or left-handed?
Right-handed. In my family, only my sister is left-handed.

2. Have you ever had anything removed from your body?
Oh, gosh, lots: tonsils, adenoids, several teeth, cancerous thyroid and some surrounding stuff, lengths of legbone, and some stuff that was supposed to be removed (splinters, say, or stitches). Maybe more, but I can't think of more at the moment. Oh! I've had a number of biopsies, so let's just say "miscellaneous bits of tissue from miscellaneous interior regions".

3. What is the last heavy item you lifted?
Don't know. It's not the kind of thing I keep track of. Certainly the Ikea trip a few weeks ago constituted a lot of heavy lifting for me (we bought a bed and a desk, among other things)

4. Have you ever been knocked unconscious?
Nope, not counting anaesthesia.

************BULLCRAPOLOGY**************

1. If it were possible, would you want to know the day you were going to die?
Yep. Knowledge is power.

2. If you could change your name, what would you change it to?
Already did! I was born Sandra. Everyone calls me Serene now, and the government's about to fall in line with that.

3. Would you drink an entire bottle of hot sauce for $1000?
Yes, if I were able to satisfy myself beforehand that it wouldn't do me any real or lasting harm.

************DUMBOLOGY******************

1. How many pairs of flip flops do you own?
Zero.

2. Last time you had a run-in with the cops?
Does that one traffic ticket I got when I was seventeen count?

3. Last person you talked to?
I just asked James how much steak he used to make the "beef fakenoff" he just served us for dinner. Yum.

4. Last person you hugged?
Either [personal profile] james_huber or [livejournal.com profile] sogwife. I didn't keep track.

**************FAVOURITOLOGY****************

I'm skipping these, because I don't tend to have favo(u)rites, but I'll leave them in in case others want them.

1. Season?

2. Holiday?

3. Day of the week?

4. Month?

***********CURRENTOLOGY*****************

1. Missing someone?
Nope. I don't tend to miss people, not even people I love very much. It sometimes hurts people's feelings, but it's truly not personal; just seems to be the way I'm hooked up.

2. Mood?
Mellow right now, as long as I don't think too hard about how much homework I'm avoiding right now.

3. What are you listening to?
If this means right now, then nothing in particular, just the general ambient sounds, which are mostly quiet right now. If it means "these days", then I've been enjoying my Pandora randomizer, which plays a lovely mix of my faves: Counting Crows, Patsy Cline, Jonathan Coulton, TMBG, Joni Mitchell, Kris Kristofferson...

4. Watching?
James is on a Columbo kick, so I've been watching that with him some, and also our other faves, Mythbusters and How It's Made. Sometimes an old episode of South Park (usually an episode with Butters, whom I love); it's been a while since I watched anything that wasn't just an excuse to cuddle on the bed with James and watch whatever he was watching.

***************RANDOMOLOGY*****************

1. First place you went this morning?
After the bathroom? To the bus stop to go to work.

2. What's the last movie you saw?
An episode of Columbo (they were all TV movies, not strictly speaking episodic TV)

3. Do you smile often?
So much that sometimes my face hurts.

***************OTHER-OLOGY*****************

1. Do you always answer your phone?
Nononono. Almost never.

2. Its four in the morning and you get a text message, who is it?
My kid or my mom.

3. If you could change your eye colour what would it be?
I can change it if I want, but I like my eye color, which has been described as "the color of root beer"

4. What flavour do you add to your drink at Sonic?
I have never been to a Sonic.

5. Do you own a digital camera?
Yes. The one on my phone and another basic Panasonic Lumix. I'm a crappy photographer.

6. Have you ever had a pet fish?
Nope.

7. Favourite celebration/festival song(s):
My brain doesn't want to work in the way that makes this question easy to answer, and I'm tired, so I'll skip it.

8. What's on your wish list for your birthday?
I don't have a wish list for my birthday. Gifts are no fun if I ask for them.

9. Can you do push ups?
Nope.

10. Can you do a chin up?
Nope.

11. Does the future make you more nervous or excited?
Excited.

12. Do you have any saved texts?
No, I am mildly addicted to clean inboxes, so I delete often. Even my work email only has a couple days' worth of emails in it. They think I'm a freak at work.

13. Ever been in a car wreck?
A couple.

14. Do you have an accent?
Silly question. Everybody has an accent. Mine's hard to pin down because I've lived so many places and I'm an accent sponge.

15. What is the last song to make you cry?
"Traveling Soldier," by Dixie Chicks. Every. Freaking. Time.

16. Plans tonight?
I had some, but they fell through, so I'm hanging out with y'all.

17. Have you ever felt like you hit rock bottom?
Yes. And then I said to myself, "I would rather die of cholesterol poisoning than spend one more day in this horrible fasting-and-bingeing cycle I'm in. I'm never dieting again, ever," and things got better.

18. Name 3 things you bought yesterday?
Hmm. It was Wednesday, right? Okay, then a copy of Sara Levine's Treasure Island!!!, some Copic markers for my kid, and hmmm. Oh, yes, I paid to print some schoolwork at the library.

19. Have you ever been given roses?
Yep, but it's not a very suitable gift for me.

20. Current worry?
I worry a fair bit about the kid. I worry about dropping one of these balls I have in the air. I worry that the kids I go to school with hate me. I worry that I talk too much. But even though this sounds like a lot, I don't spend much time worrying, usually.

21. Current hate right now?
Being part of a system that routinely devalues women, immigrants, and people of color, as a matter of course.

22. Met someone who changed your life?
Stealing [personal profile] submarine_bells's answer: On numerous occasions. Everyone who's part of my life changes it in some way, no matter how minor.

23. How will you bring in the New Year?
Usually, I'm asleep by midnight, but then there's a birthday around that time, so we go out for sushi the next day.

24. What song represents you?
I've always said "Nobody's Girl" (Bonnie Raitt's is the version I know; not sure who wrote it.). I just re-listened to it, and it's not as "me" as it was in my youth, but yeah, I still feel so simpatico with the protagonist of the song.

25. Name three people who might complete this?
Skipped for boredom.

26. Would you go back in time if you were given the chance?
Stealing [personal profile] submarine_bells's answer: Maybe. How far back? There's lots of cool events that it'd be great to see.

27. Have you ever dated someone longer than a year?
Stealing [personal profile] submarine_bells's answer: Ah, and here's our obligatory "written for a 15 year old" question. Yes, of course I have. A number of folk, in fact.

28. Does anyone love you?
Stealing [personal profile] submarine_bells's answer: Yep. Isn't love grand?

29. Ever had someone sing to you?
Stealing [personal profile] submarine_bells's answer: Hasn't everyone, at some point or another? It's always nice to hear folk singing, regardless of how good or confident their voices are. I try to encourage it in folk around me, because a lot of folk have been very discouraged by other people when they try to sing because their voices aren't of a "professional" standard, but that kinda misses the point, for me. Singing should be a participatory activity.

30. When did you last cry?
A few minutes ago, re-watching the "Traveling Soldier" video. Every time, I said!

31. Do you like to cuddle?
Only with lovers, in general. I have trouble knowing how to deal with touching with people I'm not "allowed" to just touch whenever I want. I'm not sure that makes any sense. But I don't, in general hug people a lot, besides brief hugs of greeting, and I don't sit cuddling with friends, in general. (I've tried it out some, because in theory, it seems like something I'd like, but as it turns out, I don't, not really.)

32. Have you held hands with anyone today?
Yes. James and I always hold hands when we take our walks, and the kid and I usually do, as well.

33. Are most of the friends in your life new or old?
Old. I don't make new friends easily.

34. Do you like pulpy orange juice?
Yep.

35. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I was just talking to James about how we never could have predicted where our lives would be ten years ago, and how I kind of like taking a "we'll see" view of it all. So hey, we'll see.
