Baby steps, day two
Jul. 12th, 2012 10:56 amThe first thing I need to do today is re-clean the sink. I fell yesterday and spent the rest of the day in the recliner. Kitchen stuff isn't a high priority for the others (and usually not for me, either), so the kitchen's a wreck at the moment.
(The baby steps are at this FlyLady link.) I'm adding "(and do 15 minutes of decluttering)" to every day's tasks, because until I get rid of the clutter, I'll never get on top of the cleaning.
Day One: Shine the sink
Day Two: Get dressed to lace-up shoes when you first get up in the morning. This means fix your hair and face, too. Shine your sink before you go to bed.
Today should be pretty easy, if I can keep the sink clean. As the 31 days go on, I expect the accumulation of tasks to start being tough to keep up, but I'm hoping the amount of order restored will outweigh that.
Okay, got the sink clean, but there are still dishes to do. I almost put off cleaning the sink because I knew there were still dishes, but it's okay, it has to get done anyway, and if I keep on it, it'll be easier as things go along, right?
Here's the decluttering project for today. If it comes in at under 15 minutes, I'll go around the room tossing stuff like I did yesterday. That really made a visible dent in things.

One of the hardest things for me is wearing shoes and socks all day, but I'm gonna give it a try for this 31-day period and see how it goes. My feet feel hot and uncomfortable in them, but maybe I'll get used to it. I've been wearing sandals for so long because of my deformed feet, and I only just bought closed-toes shoes that fit recently, so I'm not used to having them on at all, much less all day.
I almost feel silly showing you what I ended up with on the drawer. It took a surprisingly long time to declutter this, because there were so many little odds and ends that needed to be sorted and put away or tossed.

There's only personal stuff left, because the office supplies have their own cabinet now, which I'm kind of excited about. It's this one:

Date: 2012-07-13 09:32 am (UTC)Inspired by you I've started again too, but I'm more using Unfuck Your Habitat on tumblr, ish. My main difference is that I've been enforcing 10-minute rest periods for myself.

Date: 2012-07-15 03:45 am (UTC)No way I'd be keeping my shoes on all day. They'd make a terrible mess of the bedclothes! Besides, I'm a take-shoes-off-at-door-to-keep-house-clean person.
(And lace-up shoes? Not happening. I have one pair that fit over the ankle brace, but getting them on is painful in so many ways, and I can only tolerate them for so long, so mostly I'm ending up in Crocs. I am wearing my support socks when I'm going to be vertical for long, even though they and the weather are so hot; they're worth it.)
But good for you, for tackling this project! I wish you much luck with it -- all good.
