I thought of giving that site my birthdate, but then I didn't. I don't really want something that sounds like a short-timers chain or calendar.

I can certainly understand that. For me, however, it's a dark-humor way of reminding me that I will die some day, and reminding myself that I won't always be here has always been a really good way of focusing my energy on making today count.
