Taking Australian Joe out tonight -- any suggestions on food/activities/etc.? (Here's what I just sent him in email: "Whaddaya wanna eat? :-) (That is, if you'll be hungry at all -- I didn't think to ask if they're feeding you.) If you don't want to do dinner, we can do a bookshop/coffee/ice cream crawl in my (really cool) neighborhood. Alternatively, we can find just about any kind of food within minutes of where you're staying. What's your pleasure?"

Well, I've always found pizza and Japanese food to be pretty safe, and he doesn't eat chicken. As for other activities - I'd be willing to bet that the bookshop crawl you suggest would get a thumbs-up from him, or in fact any generally exploratory sort of ramble. What else does he like? Anime, comics, pokemon.... oh, and nifty gadgets with pretty coloured lights. He does like those. :-)

(Mark said to tell you that tickets to the opera would probably go down well, but I should point out that Mark had an evil grin on his face when he said that.)

Thanks for the tips! He's a few minutes from Seaport Village right now; how would seafood go over? (I'm only asking you because he responded to my email without responding to the food question.)

And tell Mark he's evil. And that that is not an insult.

I'm definitely recalling him having eaten seafood in a sushi type context, but I have no idea if there are any specific constraints or limits to his willingness to eat seafood. I'd say it's probably reasonably safe, but it might be good to have a backup plan just in case.

Note that it amuses Joe to tease me by saying that *I* am a fussy eater because I don't have a lot of enthusiasm for the half dozen or so things he likes to eat! *laugh* He can be a little picky foodwise at times, but generally I've found he's pretty easy to feed if restaurants/eateries are involved, since they provide many options to choose from anyway. It's just catering for him myself that I've found a bit challenging at times.

I seem to recall fondness for Thai and Mexican food as well, now I think of it, so they might be good things to suggest if he's not wild about the seafood option. But seriously, I think you'll be fine.

I passed on to Mark your observation regarding his evilness, and he cackled appropriately.

Oh, and do tell me how the evening turns out, won't you? After all this tossing-around-of-ideas, I'd certainly like to hear about the final outcome.

(And you could probably get some mileage out of showing him this discussion, too, if you're so inclined... I'm sure he'll have some tongue-in-cheek remarks to make about my comments on his culinary tastes, and will probably derive much entertainment from critiquing my suggestions! *laugh*)

*chuckle* I'm just happy that I didn't just haul him off to the Chicken Pie Shop (a real place, but not seriously someplace I'd take a visitor). :-)

Tell Mark that after tonight, it's his turn, and I will have met your whole family. :-)

Taking Australian Joe out tonight

*does double-take*
This can't be the AussieJoe... does he have a wife named Zoe? If so, give him a squeeze for me! He is a cutey patootie! (and that whole 6 degrees of separation thing going on...)

And if it isn't, then still, you just filled my head with some very pleasant memories. :^)

Yep, it's that Aussie Joe. He doesn't have an LJ, but I did copy him on this thread as [livejournal.com profile] teal7 suggested. :-)

Wow. Give him a great big hug for me.

Man, sometimes I really miss those flight privileges.
