It's still Wednesday on Mars
Jan. 25th, 2018 09:20 amForgot it was Wednesday last night. I mean, didn't forget Wednesday was media-consumption day; forgot what day it was altogether. But here goes, a day late.

Finished:
Nnedi Okorafor, Binti: The Night Masquerade. Not my very favorite of her work, but really good as always. She's such a talented writer and storyteller. There's a thing that usually bothers me that didn't in this book. I'll ROT-13 it 'cause it's spoilery: Hfhnyyl, vs fbzrbar qvrf naq pbzrf onpx gb yvsr va n obbx/zbivr/jbex, V srry n yvggyr (be n ybg) purngrq, ohg va guvf bar, gung srryvat jnf ernyyl oevrs, orpnhfr fur znqr vg znxr frafr, juvpu V guvax vf n srng.
Michelle Burford/Diane Guerrero: In the Country We Love: My Family Divided. I don't read a lot of biographies/autobiographies, but Guerrero as an actor is appealing to me, and the subject matter is important to me, so I picked it up last time we were at the library. Guerrero was fourteen and the only US citizen in her family when her family was deported from the US to Colombia without her. She went unnoticed by the US government (i.e., she didn't get put into foster care) and she had to fend for herself (with the help of friends and relatives). CN: She also talks about her experiences with depression, cutting, suicidal behavior, and problems with intimacy (by which I mean finding closeness to other people and physical, nonsexual touch difficult). Anyway, it's a good look at how immigration policy affects individuals, families, and communities. I recommend it.

Watching
On Amazon:
Watched an episode of Orphan Black. It's like Jessica Jones for me -- a little too intense to watch every day, and lots of the conflict arises from the protagonist's bad choices, so it's cringey, but still seems like it'll be good, so I'll probably continue.
Watched all of season 10 of Doctor Who and the Christmas special. I usually wait for it to be free, but I paid for the Christmas special. I was having a rough day and I treated myself to the $4.99 splurge. These days, I like Doctor Who fine. I don't adore it, but I like it enough to be excited to watch it when new episodes are out. And I'm super-excited to have a woman Doctor.
On Netflix:
Watched four episodes of season 4 of Grace & Frankie. See bad choices, above, but I keep watching it, because Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin!
On disc:
Same answer as last week: Mostly just silly junk with James. We're re-watching The Munsters right now, and we've been watching a bunch of old sci-fi and creature features.
Oh, and I re-watched Shaun of the Dead, which I love a lot.
Listening
Mostly Google Play versions of my old albums, but in the car, I've got Brandi Carlile on repeat even though the album in question (Firewatcher's Daughter) has many, many lyrics that I find either pedestrian or just poorly done. The songs are still compelling to me, though, so I roll with it.
And James's podcast interview came out. Google Play: https://play.google.com/music/m/D7zfcqgd7iknvvhc65bbms6by4m?t=190_-_Kissing_Hanks_Shithole-Godless_Rebelution Podbean: https://GodlessRebelution.podbean.com/e/190-kissing-hanks-shithole/
Playing
I deleted Dots & Co. from my phone because it's been crashing a lot and there's been no new content in a long time; I assume they've stopped working on it. Still playing a lot of Two Dots, and kinda poking around for a new game to play, but not very diligently.
Had breakfast with my brother the other day, and we are talking about having a game night one of these days. That would be cool. Our childhood was a constant stream of board games; it was our standard group Giftmas present from Dad, and every chance we got, we were playing Monopoly or Risk or Sorry or Pit or whatever. We stopped playing board games at family gatherings because his wife and our stepmother both hate playing games, but we may just plan some evenings that are just about that so the others can come or not as they choose.
