[We split it 50/50. $97 each. Since I've paid around $130 in medical bills so far this week, that'll come in handy.]

wow. but even if that's the tally from all your walks this year, that's still amazing. i find the occasional quarter, dime, or penny.

It was all in one clump of bills. Someone had clearly dropped all their money.

One time, we found $60, and we approached the only people on the same sidewalk and asked them if they'd dropped any money. They said they had, and we gave them the money. In this case, there was literally no one around to ask, so we had a momentary jointly-felt twinge, and then kept the money. It wasn't in a wallet or anything.

(James assumes it's drug-deal money dropped in haste. I have no idea. I just hope whoever lost it can afford it more than I could when I lost $100 a couple months ago. That stung.)

james might be right. i, of course, would also think "what if it were somebody like serene". :)

i guess i would take it to the police, because if i lost money, i'd go there to ask whether anyone dropped it off. IIRC if nobody shows up who claims it, it'll be the finder's after a certain amount of time. (not saying this is what you should do, or that i'd think less of you if you don't.)

It's so interesting to me that we didn't even consider that. I mean, in San Diego, that's exactly what I would have done, without even thinking about it, but in Oakland, the police are so famously corrupt that it didn't occur to me for a second to go to them when I lost $100, nor when I found this money. But of course, it's obvious now that you mention it, that that's what I should do. Thanks. :-)
