I don't know why, but flame wars don't generally upset me. They just feel like more info about the participants, more than anything else. My feelings get hurt if I'm the one being flamed, but usually only briefly, and often with the result that I find out I've been being stupid. It bothers me, of course, that it hurts people I care about, but I just can't get myself too worked up about the flames themselves. (But I *loathe* it when people send flames in private email, as I've heard some do. I think it's cowardly and reprehensible.)

I'm soooo hungry. I think I'll brave the raindrops and drive somewhere with good vegan sushi. Mmmmmmm, avocado rollllls.

"Flamers attack me in email" is almost as bad as "lurkers support me in email," but sadder. I dislike that there are people who will be nasty to each other offlist but would never do that to someone in public, and be accountable.

flames in email

i don't get it. what's cowardly about sending flames in email, as long as one doesn't do it from a phony account?

Mike and I both hate that "hero" song - at the beginning, when he whispers something and he's supposed to sound all sexy, Mike usually whispers something obnoxious and snide, and it makes me collapse with laughter.

flame wars, to me, are just soooooooo very predictable anymore...the last one, i knew was gonna happen, and i knew who was gonna start it...i just didn't know what would provoke her to *start* (as it were). i'm really, really, really trying to keep my fingers off the keys...cuz i'm not too nice, especially when the *flamer* gets on my damned nerves so badly, anyway.

bleah.

did somebody say sushi? *drool*

Some flamewars just thrill me like anything -- devastatingly clever and intelligent writing, real villains really getting routed, people brilliantly standing up for themselves and various worthy causes, setting wonderful examples for all and leaving me with big waves of "I HEART so-and-so, so-and-so MY HERO!!!" crushes.

Others really depress me -- seeing people I really like calling each other nasty names and just not understanding how it could have come to that, or seeing some of the stuff coming from people I really like in the course of chasing off a jerk-of-the-week turn out to be startlingly ugly, that kind of thing.

Not having developed much of a taste for sushi, I'm sitting here eating m&m's, myself.

Oh, yes, I forgot to mention the really *good* flamewars, the ones where people's brilliance in trollhunting shines through.

Mmmmm, M&Ms....

Huh. I've always thought that if flaming had to occur in the NetWorld, it *should* occur in email, rather than poison the general atmosphere for everybody else.

Avocado rolls? Where?

I agree that people reveal far more about themselves during most flame wars than they do about the topic at hand.

More importantly, avocado rolls are one of my all-time favorite foods! I usually get them from the local Whole Foods as a reward for being a "nice teacher" on class days.

Yum!

San Diego is on your way home.

What? You say I don't know where you live? True, but nonetheless, given a sufficiently circuitous route, San Diego is on your way home.

Well, yes, I suppose I could manage that -- though it may be hard to explain the couple thousand mile detour. Definately too far to walk, though, which is how I usually get home from work. Wanna come pick me up?

Cool! Just let me know when to expect you -- anytime you find yourself here, I'll be sure to be available.

We'd better bring Lyngine along, and cute-poet-chick too.
