I may have the energy for it later. As of this moment, I'm feeling misunderstood, snarky, and tired of the topic, so I'm going to pull back for a while. Apologies for discussis interruptus.

*hugs*, sweetie. They weren't there, they didn't go through it. Take deep breaths, and take a break :)

Oh, I'm not upset. Just too mentally tired to make the effort when things are just not apparently coming out in the same language they are written in in my head.

sheesh, what is it about heated sexism debates in livejournal lately? a week or so ago, I got way too involved in a debate with a young L*rry K*ssler clone, who decided that we needed to have a theoretical discussion of why, exactly, sexism was so wrong before he was willing to take me seriously. sigh.

Bleah. Well, I think I handled the whole thing poorly, but honestly, sometimes I just want people to Get It without my having to explain where I'm coming from. I still feel bad about the thread, but I'm not sure I'm going to do anything about it but continue to feel kinda bad until I get over it. I considered going back and answering each comment anew, but I'm not sure I have the energy for that.

sometimes I harbor a weird, probably totally futile hope that if people see how deeply this issue, and their misunderstanding of it, is making me upset/irritated/whatever - and if they see that I have had enough of explaining and I can't do it logically and patiently the way they want without getting kind of ridiculous - that they really will think, "oh, maybe this *is* important enough to go research on my own." but I don't think that happens too often in real life.

Yeah, maybe not. And I wonder if the few times I do fly off the handle about it registers as anything but "Eh. Typical feminazi," rather than "Oh, wow, serene's usually pretty reasonable. Maybe she has a point, if it's getting her this worked up."

there are other options, you know. :) and i admit, my most likely reaction to somebody reasonable sounding suddenly quite unreasonable is "button". buttons have causes, but they're not automatically good reasons, so i just sorta watch out around them instead of having them propel me into re-examining my own beliefs.

though i do understand wishing one didn't always to < dammit > explain every little bit. i try to make myself say that before i fly off the handle. i don't always succeed.

don't feel too bad. it wasn't your most shining hour, but as we recently en masse descended to let you know, you have many, many shining hours, and -- did anyone think of something you do that annoys them? *grin*. you didn't annoy me here either. (and thanks for the email; i'll get back to that.)

Don't try telling me I'm not perfect, you-- you-- you fish, you! Lalalalalala, I can't hear you, I mean see you; I have my fingers in my ears, I mean eyes, I mean--- oh, never mind.

Snicker.

Don't let the idiotosi get you down, lady. You know what is right, you know what is wrong.

Prejudice is wrong.

End of story.

Just because you can't teach a pig doesn't mean there aren't things to be taught and learned. ;)
