I've been in love with him, or at least his writing for years now.
Don’t people read fiction anymore? Don’t they think of language and metaphor as an amazing gift we are given free at birth? It is as though many people read only to find that which is offensive, a vast umbrage army, unconcerned with context, templates already prepared in their computers.
I got hooked on him when we still lived up north and got the dead tree version of the Cronicle. I think reading about his experience with diabetes was one of the reasons why I handled mine so well.
Remind me to lend you Near-Life Experiences, a collection of his earlier columns.
