Some notes from the last week or two:

1) Sunrises in my new town are much more beautiful than they were in San Diego. Now, *sunsets* in San Diego are beyond gorgeous, but where I lived, the mountains obscured the sunrise. Lately, though, I've been seeing some beauties on the way to work.

2) family stuff and how we dealt with my mother-out-law's death and her estate )

3. The contract at work ends at the end of November. One of my bosses has arranged to hire me for a part time job with benefits (the shit job I try to give away here from time to time), and I'm really thrilled. I will be working two days a week, getting enough money to scrape by, and getting *benefits*! Goodbye to spending $340 a month on COBRA, yay!

4. Munchkin the Elder is having a hard time at home. Zie wants to move in with me. I'm driving down for a visit in a week and a half, and we're gonna discuss it. Oy.

5. We got a dining table! I can't tell you how happy this makes me. I have hated eating on our laps or on tv trays. [livejournal.com profile] stonebender is gonna get me some paint to refurbish it, but it's a great, sturdy table, and I adore it, even if it was free on freecycle. :-)

6. I made the Andersen's Split Pea Soup recipe that I bought from the restaurant when we went. It turned out really well, and if anyone wants the recipe, lemme know and I'll email it to you.

7. During all this upheaval, I have been bad about keeping in touch with folks. Add in that the desktop I was using, which contained all my saved email, bit the dust last week, and you get a plea from me: If I owe you email and you wish you would hear from me, take pity on me, please, and send me email at serene@serenepages.org. Thank you.

Life is hard; life is good. I can live with that.

I have seen this in a few people's journals. I feel like it should be phrased as a question, such as, can I possibly be the only one among my friends who has:

this CD?
Nanci Griffith, Poet In My Window

this book?
Recipes from the Frugal Gourmet (a comb-bound, hand-lettered thing from before he was nationally famous, put out by the friends of channel 62, where his original show aired)

this movie?
White Zombies

visited this place?
Rota, Spain

Not sure anyone here will be interested, but some folks from my old favorite listserv, Veglist, have taken it upon themselves to convene at a new yahoo group ([livejournal.com profile] glitterophelia, we miss you!). It's called Planet Eggplant, and we're havin' fun. All kinds of discussion are welcome, with the exception of debate about vegetarianism vs. meat-eating -- the people on this list are stipulating that the list is pro-veg, but omnivores are welcome if they don't try to convince listmembers to eat meat. Anyway, it's a fun place, and I'm thrilled it has some traffic. Check it out if you want.
