Like [livejournal.com profile] klwalton, I made pretty food today, but I didn't have my camera handy, so you just get a description.

I put some pasta on to boil. Meanwhile, I chopped some jarred red peppers, some green olives, and a couple of fresh tomatoes. I tossed them in garlic powder, olive oil, and salt, and sauteed them with some bay scallops in butter. When the pasta was done, I drained it, took the scallop mixture out of its butter broth with a slotted spoon, and mixed the pasta and scallops together. Then I added a splash of cream and a bit of black pepper to the scallop broth and reduced it a bit. Poured that over the pasta, then topped the bowls of pasta with two slices each of goat cheese, and little dabs of salmon roe on top of the cheese (as you know, I work at a furniture-themed Swedish restaurant, so caviar is cheap for me). So beautiful, and once it was all mixed together, don't laugh, but it was almost like a seafood stroganoff. So very yummy, and such a swellegant lunch, if I do say so myself.

Some songs remind me of certain people, but some songs are more specific and take me back to specific events. I feel like talking about some of them tonight. Bear with me.

Cut because I'm a sweetheart that way. )

Today I made split-pea soup in my pressure-cooker. My mom always used a hamhock, but I used a smoked turkey leg. This stuff is really good (though I would probably like it better without the meat, but maybe not).

Just found out that [livejournal.com profile] jwermont's band is playing at Temescal Cafe (49th and Telegraph, North Oakland -- there's usually parking across the street at Walgreens) in a few minutes. [livejournal.com profile] sogwife and I are going. Get your butts over there and listen to the world music with us, then if you wanna come to our house for Swedish meatballs and lingonberries, do that, too. I have fresh split pea soup, too. C'mon. You know you want to.

Walked to the Temescal Cafe. Saw that [livejournal.com profile] jwermont's band was about to go on. Walked back home to collect [livejournal.com profile] sogwife and drop off [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy, who had to work. Walked past the funkycool restaurants and the pagan store where they were discussiing what we would do if we had no fear (which made me think of [livejournal.com profile] dryadgrl and her recent post, and about how fearless she is). Went back to the cafe by way of Walgreens, where I bought a notebook and pen. Sat and wrote and listened to the band. Said hi to a local artist who knows me to wave to me anyway. Had a brief chat with Michaela, the ultra-hip-ultra-hot barrista. Got a smile and a wave from Bakesale Betty, (not her real name) who runs the new pastry shop in town and does indeed have a blue That-Girl wig on almost all the time. I fucking love my neighborhood.

The band's first song was called "Sorrow Into Joy," and this is what I wrote while they played:
