notes from busyville

Just a few more weeks. In a few weeks, I'll be done at Ikea, and I will have a life again. My other job has plenty of work for me, but at my other job, I never have to work nights or weekends. I can (gasp!) have dinner at home every night, and have actual days off -- two in a row, every week! This weekend was a huge sale, and I'm completely wiped out. Between the trip to San Diego, the food poisoning, and the sale, I feel incredibly exhausted.

Not too exhausted to extort your presence on Thursday, though. If you love me, truly love me, you will make every effort to come out to Oakland on Thursday night to see final_girl read her amazing poetry (and who knows what else she will be up to -- I predict hijinks). I've been getting discouraged with the small numbers of people at the readings, and if people don't turn out to see Daphne, I think I'll conclude that Thursday nights just aren't good for folks. So come to the reading and no one gets hurt. </mood: silly>

couple things

1) tomorrow is a massive (I hope)
walkout at UCBerkeley and elsewhere.

2) Yahoo is being a big asshole. Thinking of withdrawing from their
service, even though some listservs I care about are there. What to do,
what to do.

3) Way. Too. Much. Halloween. Candy.

4) Daphne Fucking Gottlieb (yay!) will be reading at Nomad on Thursday.
7:00 for open mic; 7:30 to hear her amazing stuff. One-drink minimum, but
just mention to me if you want me to buy your one coffee/beer/whatever,
and I'm good for it.

Cooking fun

Over in my food blog, I'm
asking people to give me recipes to try. I had a delicious spinach dish
from firecat's OH (who has no LJ, and to whom I'm copying this
post). I took the leftovers to work, and when they cleaned out the
fridge, they tossed my spinach, and I was very sad. Anyway, it was really
good.

Then I bought all the stuff for the OH's stir-fry recipe (which actually
doesn't strike me as stir-fry, and which I planned to completely revamp
with fresh ingredients) and got too busy to cook it, so I've been eating
the veggies piecemeal for the last couple of days. I'll get around to
both of the other two recipes as soon as I can, and it feels like a fun
project.

All of which is to say "Give me more recipes!" Either here or there,
please shoot me your favorite vegan recipe or one you want veganized, and
I'll give it a shot. I already know the spinach will be a favorite, even
if it does have wine in it.

oh, and...

...I'm not doing NaNoWriMo this
year, but I wish tons of luck and inspiration to those of you who are.
