So the other day I come in to work and there's blue tape over the water
fountain. Apparently, while a co-worker was working, she heard what
sounded like a waterfall in the lobby, and she came out and the fountain
was on. By itself. And the drain is sluggish, so the water was cascading
to the (carpeted) floor.

Um. Okay.

Cut for those who are askeered of plumbing demons )

Lovely days, that is. It's just been an excellent week.

Yesterday, we walked home from Berkeley again. Lovely dinner -- veggie pizza and a really good salad of romaine, pears, pecans, goat cheese, and a lemon dressing. Yum. Stopped at the farmer's market and got five different kinds of eggplant (one apiece) for $1.90, and a bunch of beets. Went home and checked on my plants, which are thriving. Ate yummy eggplant (with onions and garlic in olive oil). Watched a really tremendously bad (in a good way) movie called "Creature from the Haunted Sea".

Delicious badness. I was astounded.

Didn't get enough sleep, but almost enough, and [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy was sweet enough to bring me to work today because I had forgotten to acquire bus cash in our travels yesterday.

Little stuff, but it makes me happy.

Without context, let me just share a really lovely paragraph that [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy wrote today.

So rather than (or in addition to) trying to provide scientific proof
for our position, we might try address the religious mind set more
directly. That means appealing to things like love of truth,
humility before mystery, a desire for a meaningful life and a sense
of awe and wonder. Carl Sagan was a master at that, but I can't
think of anyone else who even really tries.

My friends who groove on the barter economy -- I'm especially thinking of [livejournal.com profile] dryadgrl here -- will love this:

Man turns paper clip into house.

Don't think I'm not trying to decide if I can do this, too. :-)

Feel free to skip this if you won't be near Portland, Oregon on September 8th and/or 9th.

Because of the immense generosity of a couple of friends, I'm going to be in Portland, Oregon, on September 8th & 9th. The 8th, I'll be seeing a favorite performer, but if you're free for brunch/lunch on the 9th, please comment here, and we'll try to arrange something. My co-worker is driving up with me, so lunch/brunch will include her, and possibly my brother and his family, who live a few hours north of Portland. Definitely not an intimate social occasion, but if you're looking for something more one-on-one, I may be convinced to stick around Saturday evening for that.

(Also, don't feel bad if you're not up for random (typo: fandom) social contact on a Saturday afternoon. Just wanted to put it out there in case.)

I'm going to be in Portland (Oregon) with a friend on September 8th and
9th, and [livejournal.com profile] snippy has graciously offered to host a flock in her
home on Saturday, the 9th, at 2pm. If you're going to be in the Portland
area, please come by -- email snippy at pacifier dot com for directions.
I'm posting this on alt.poly, too, but my brother and a friend of mine may
come, so it's not strictly speaking an alt.polyflock, but come anyway --
we can debate swinging vs. poly! (Kidding, [livejournal.com profile] snippy, kidding!)
