I want more cool people on my friends list. You can help.

Introduce me

Pick someone on your friends list who's not on mine (NOT necessarily your "favorite" -- pick at random, throw a dart, whatever -- I hate things that make me pick a favorite, especially a favorite person). Tell me about this person:

What's cool about zir and/or zir journal?
If you've met, when/how/where did you meet?
What will I love about zir?

You have 388 friends and want more. I can think of much worse things to be greedy about. I suggest [livejournal.com profile] celestialabyss. She's an old friend; we've been in the Illuminatus! Nut Cult together for over twenty years. She has a wide range of interests (see her userpage), and she's a really nice person.

Cool; thanks! I have tons of free time at work, so my friends list doesn't have new stuff on it nearly often enough for me. (I don't, however, do LJ on the weekends at home, generally, so Monday morning is quick-skim time. :-)

One of my happy discoveries was Forioscribe, John Palcewski; I think I found a mention of his journal in a comment in [livejournal.com profile] blog_sociology or some similar community. It's an ongoing story with photographic illustrations (there's some background here).

I'd like to introduce you to [livejournal.com profile] atreic, who is a lovely wonderful person (even if I am biased); she doesn't post a vast amount, so it won't be much more to read.

We met nearly a year ago at an Amber RPG game (how sad is that? :), and have been going out for a month or two (there isn't a defined start date).

She's a really important part of my life, which is why I'm introducing you (by LJ at least)

I like [livejournal.com profile] sgnp.

He's sometimes hilarious, sometimes bathetic; sometimes he tries too hard and fails anyway or because of that, but I don't care; he's usually pretty much himself.

I haven't met him. One of the few on my list who I haven't.

You will love his sweetness and silliness.

Whoa, you've got 389 and want more, and I've only got 27 and can hardly keep up with that! (Well, there are some others I read, too, not on the list, but who I haven't added because of insecurity about whether they would think I was being presumptuous, etc.)

Anyway, I was *hoping* that you didn't have your *own* name on your list, so I could do an amusing write-up proposing you, but seeing as you have foiled my plan I guess I will propose [livejournal.com profile] fj -- a very interesting person and fine writer (with an amazing partner, too) who you've met even though I haven't.

I recommend [livejournal.com profile] drood over and over again, but my logic stands... he is a very strong writer and leads an interesting life. I have yet to meet him personally but certainly wouldn't turn down the chance.

What she said. Also recommended: the very wonderful [livejournal.com profile] grandiva1968 (nobody writes like him about the things he writes about), and my pal [livejournal.com profile] jarrett02 cos he's short on Friends (if not short on friends).

Well, what's cool? How about this description? "What I obsess about: sex, chocolate, religion, mysticism, the arts, the creative life, the creative process, art as shamanism, sex as spirituality."

I only know her from LJ, but we are both writers, and and we love cattiness and live with birds.

I think you'll love her thought processes and the truly off-beat fiction she comes up with.

I'm not throwing darts, or, for that matter, any pointed object, at my friends ;-)

(Besides, without having checked, I'd guess that your friends list is a proper superset of mine.)

[livejournal.com profile] mhw is good for meeting people :)

Sometimes, clever/funny/wise comments will lead to the dubious pleasure of being added to my friends list. We never met, we never talked, she probably hasn't noticed. Her userpic reminds me of somebody, though. She's a fun person though, as far as I can tell, but mostly quiet these days.

There aren't many people on my list who aren't already on yours, but I can heartily recommend [livejournal.com profile] pernishus, the nom-de-LJ of my dear friend John Barnstead, a professor of Russian literature and consummate gentle man whose LJ, while sporadic, is always rich, delightful reading, whether he's posting his translations of Russian poetry or telling stories about his boyhood in the American heartland.

Don't be confused by the fact that he sometimes seems to be posting as a cat.

Hmmmm... I really dig [livejournal.com profile] nadinelet. She's a great writer and she's all about amazing food. She has sweet kitties and she makes me think.

Of course I dig her for lots of reasons, these are just a couple of them.

[livejournal.com profile] meowse writes incredible entries about dreams and stories and growing. And you'll probably hear more than you ever wanted to about him from me on the roadtrip, so you might as well do the preparatory reading. *grin* I met him at Baycon this year, at the Rule 6 party, and have been spending rather a lot of time with him since then.

[livejournal.com profile] natalieann is my girlfriend. Aside from that, she's a really cool and lovely person. She has another journal too, at this (http://www.eilatan.net) location. :) I love her, you should too. ;)

You know, if you want access to the friends only LJ, all you have to do is ask. It's not really that *huge* of a deal. :) In fact, consider yourself added.

I have a (probably stupid) policy against asking strangers to add me to their friends-only filters. It feels intrusive to me.

I think you'd find [livejournal.com profile] jiggery_pokery interesting. I do. He's geeky in all the good ways and manages to do something most people (me included) do far too rarely, viz. write interesting long posts about himself and his life, and even self-analyzes entertainingly. (And I'm seeing him for the first time in way too long on Monday night!)

I'd have to point toward [livejournal.com profile] drownedinink. He's just...interesting. Has a slightly bent view of the the universe. And knows how to laugh at himself.

Way cool. I like this line from his journal:

You know, I'm getting really sick of the tendency lately to call soldiers 'peacekeepers,' which I've seen even in the allegedly ultra-liberal BBC news. True, their missions might have a peaceful objective, rather than be the sort of old-as-civilization naked agression our corner of the globe has supposedly put behind us, but to call them peacekeepers just feels...I don't know...Slightly Orwellian? Blatantly manipulative? Absolutely absurd?

Of the few friends we don't already have in common:

[livejournal.com profile] quadrivium
I started reading her journal as a result of doing interest searching; I think she was the only other lj user at the time who had Stephanie Laurens as an interest and was over 19. We haven't met, but I like both her tales of Mom-hood and, most especially, her discussion of things musical (she's a jazz musician and music teacher)

I'll just cheat and second that recommendation. I've met [livejournal.com profile] quadrivium in person, and she is very nifty. ;)
