I shall use my morning migraine break (that's a coffee break with aspirin added -- migraine seems to be responding, yay!) to tell you some good things about my job. (This is not to gloat, but to express gratitude. If I made more money, maybe I'd gloat, but I suspect even my friends on unemployment are clearing more than I am.)

1) There was a glitch and I didn't get paid this month. Not only are they rushing around to fix this, but they *volunteered* to pay the bounce fee this caused when my beginning-of-the-month automatic bill payments went through.

2) The new great-grandboss not only seeks our input, he *listens*. I have worked a lot of places, so I know this is rare, but now I have three bosses (boss, grandboss, and new great-grandboss) who do this. It's like there's a magical dome of awesomeness in this building.

3) It's UC Berkeley. That in itself deserves its own gratitude point.

4) Right next door to my office, there's a snack bar that sells a bowl of hot oatmeal (with your choice of butter, honey, raisins, brown sugar, cinnamon, etc.) for $1.25, and a cup of coffee with free soymilk (vanilla or chocolate) for $.99. So for $2.24, I had oatmeal and a soy mocha for breakfast. I'm happy.

What are you grateful for today?

I'm grateful that I'm back to feeling alert now that our heat wave is over, so I can handle the confusing number of interruptions I'm getting while I do a brief (the most complex task I do and one that also requires the most concentrated attention).

I'm grateful for food enough, and time enough, and warmth enough, and love enough. I'm grateful for being able to get out of the house, twice. I'm grateful for my friends and my family. I'm grateful for my daughters. I'm grateful for the light through the trees. I'm grateful for self-care. I'm grateful for my new bathroom, and my breakfast muesli, and frozen cupcakes. I'm grateful for library books and the Fair Trade standard. I'm grateful for a lack of poverty. I'm grateful for cheap free-range chicken and a stockpot. I'm grateful for this post, which is much more cheerful than most of what I've been thinking today!

Chocolate ice cream at work this afternoon (not that I can't afford to buy ice cream, but there's something nice about them bringing it in in mid-afternoon); there are still fireflies outside (or were yesterday); and we're having a noticeably cool summer.
