Favorite Cookbook: New Favorite: The Sweet Potato Queens' Big-Ass Cookbook and Financial Planner; All-time Favorite: Laurel's Kitchen; Most used: Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook

Kitchen tool you can't live without: Good, sharp knives

Your speciality: Throwing together a meal from whatever's in the cupboards

Fondest food memory: Hmm, tough one. I guess helping my mom make her spaghetti sauce. She would let me clean out the tomato-paste cans, and then while the sauce cooked and cooked and cooked, she would indulgently chastise me for taking some before it was done so I could eat it on top of white bread.

First meal you ever prepared: I have no idea. My mother had me helping in the kitchen when I was four years old.

Best meal you ever prepared: Don't know. One I was pleased with fairly recently was the risotto and calamari steaks I made for [livejournal.com profile] stonebender and his family.

One food you couldn't live without: There's no particular food I couldn't live without, but I'd be sad if there were no more avocado sushi or good watermelon or popcorn.

Favorite food scene in a movie: I can't think of one right now that's a favorite, but favorite foodie movies include "Tampopo" and "Like Water for Chocolate".

Favorite guilty pleasure food: I don't feel guilty about food. My favorite "junk food," though, is probably processed meat -- liverwurst, sausage, stuff like that.

Favorite restaurant: Favorite that I can afford to go to often is probably Pokez right now; hard to say which is my favorite of all, but I love going to new restaurants, and every good place feels like my new favorite.

Favorite quick/easy recipe: "Special Rice": Fry some veggies (sliced onion, grated carrot, diced celery, whatever) in some oil and garlic. Add cooked rice (white, brown, whatever), chopped fresh basil (dried is okay, but not the same), and soy sauce, and keep frying it until it glistens. That's it. Basically, fried rice, but different.

Wow, that's great! I'm just learning to bake bread out of a book, and I'm not very good at it yet.
