Third Thursday women's open mic

sereneIf you're local to me (San Francisco Bay Area) and a woman, come hang out with me this Thursday night.
Join us this Thursday, May 21 at Third Thursday women's open mic talent showcase at Montclair Women's Cultural Arts, 1650 Mountain Blvd. in Oakland, corner of Mountain and Thornhill off Hwy. 13, 7:30 pm. 510-654-4088 for info. $ 7 - 10 sliding scale at the door.

This is an all-women event and all women are welcome.
This month's feature is LEA ARELLANO, spoken word artist, vocalist, author of 2 chapbooks full of inciting polemics, singer songwriter from the deep southwestern desert, social justice consultant/trainer/coach and purveyor of Multi-pure water filters. Lea is the dancing bird of prayer, Chola Priest now Chola Pope, Water Bearing Aquarius, Scorpio Moon, rocker and roller ready to sing to you! Joining her will be the electrifying Shazam!
AND...the heart and soul of Third Thursday: YOU, either as performer or audience member. Drop in for some laughs, songs, poems, prose, instruments, spoken word, and any other talents you have. Each performer has 5 minutes to do their thing, sometimes more in the second half if time allows. It is an evening rich with entertainment.

Artist In Residence this month is SHEILA O'ROURKE with "Practice Plate Ponies," steel sculptures made of the scrap metal from welding classes. She uses the students' plates to reflect the textures and spatters of their first efforts to carve steel with fire and electricity. The pieces are reflections of stretching to learn something new, pushing past the fear of fire, and for Sheila, rediscovering the spirit of horses after a long road of recovery from chemo.
