From [livejournal.com profile] kightp and others:

I know very little about some of the people on my friends' list. Some people I know relatively well. Some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you.

But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...she likes spinach."

I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal, if you feel like it.

I am currently owned long-distance by a fawn, silky-coat, dumbo rat named Gertrude (also known as "fuzzy butt").

She was originally half of a pair (her partner in crime was named Alice). Alice passed away the day after she and Gertie had a checkup at the veterinarian. Both were given a clean bill of health.

Before Gertrude I was owned by a fawn rough-coat non-dumbo rat named "Fat Boy" (hey - he weighed almost a pound). Before Fat Boy I was owned by a previously owned black-and-white rat named Junior (originally called Spike the Wonder Rat and there was no WAY I was keeping that) who got nicknamed Kamikaze rat the third time he dove off the table onto someone's head. He was two when I got him, and lived to be almost six.

I know my men's shoe size (10 W), but they don't really make women's shoes in my size, so I have to try and try and try to find ones that fit.

The reason I look so happy in this picture is that I was glowing from a long night of lovemaking with one of my dearest. I'm not wearing a stich of clothing, though it's pretty well cropped.

When I was five or six, the nun teaching our First Communion class told us that if we wanted something, all we had to do was pray.

I think I must have just seen Pinnocchio, too, because I got it into my head to test the theory by asking God to make my dolls come to life.

Every night for what seemed like a very long time (but was probably days) I'd lay all my dolls out on my bed and get down on my knees and squint my eyes shut tight, and pray my little heart out. And open my eyes truly expecting to see real, live babies where my dolls had been.

There never were, of course. After a while I got bored and gave up, but that was my first real crisis of faith. I never quite believed the nuns after that.

I stopped believing adults the day I found out my mom was santa. Your story is better.

("They fuck you up, your mum and dad
They may not mean to but they do
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you
But they were fucked up in their turn
By fools in old style hats and coats
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another's throats
Man hands on misery to man
It deepens like a coastal shelf
Get out as early as you can
And don't have any kids yourself")

A major step in my path here was publishing my first fanzine in 1977. As a result, there are people here I've known for more than a quarter of a century. In those pre-Net days, it was considerably harder for a socially challenged person to make friends via the printed word, but I managed.

I'm 5'5, and 31 going on 90. I work as a Forensic Biologist/DNA Analyst for the Georgia state crime lab. I used to be a "fish pimp", I adore cats (and only have one fluffy one). I'm originally from Nebraska, have lived in about 17 different homes, and currently live just outside of Atlanta. I miss snow. I think it's time to change the color of my hair again, and my family drives me nuts sometimes.

How's that for starters??
