reposted from some newsgroups:

It's scary, a little, but exciting a lot. I will miss my family and
cute-poet-chick. I will miss knowing my way around. But.

[livejournal.com profile] someotherguy and I are moving to the Bay Area.

Soon.

-ish.

We want to be closer to our other partners, and I've always wanted to
live there; well, since I was 13 or 14 and decided I was going to go to
Berkeley, anyway. I didn't, but now I'm a growed-up, and I can go where
I want.

The thing to solve is finding me a job, and I am optimistic. I've had
some nibbles, and I'm continuing to apply for things that seem like (a)
I can do them happily, and (b) they're not part of the
military/industrial complex.

So, if anyone has any job leads (I tend to do secretarial-type stuff,
but I've done copyediting and all kinds of other stuff, and am feeling
flexible), I'd be happy to know about them, but mainly I just wanted to
let y'all know.

Whee!

Yeeeeeehahhhhhhh!!!!!

I am looking forward to meeting you at last. Do you know about Craigslist (http://www.craigslist.org)? It's the place to find jobs, housing, used vehicles, yard sales, and everything else.

Would you mind telling me what your credentials are? J. might have something you can do at one of the Chapman campuses. I can ask if you're interested.

I've basically done office work for 20+ years. I am your basic clerical jack-of-all-trades (type 65 wpm, do all the Microsoft Office stuff, experience as an office manager, payroll clerk, accounts payable person, etc.). I could send (or post) my resume if you like. Thanks.

Why don't you email it to me. I know one of the campuses needs a program manager (clerical work) but I'm not sure yet what the scoop is on that particular position. bayarts4u at yahoo.

don't know if we have any openings at the moment. but we are not military/industrial, that's for sure.

i know we are hiring Program Counselors, but most folk don't want to put themselves in that position.

if you have an actual interest. email me.

I'm guessing this means no trip to Portland in the near future. Still, depending on where y'all land (I don't drive) I might actually be able to get to one of your brunches at some point!

It was a pre-interview-ish thing. It went fine. I faxed them my resume packet, etc., and I hope to hear back from them soon. Meanwhile, I'm putting in resumes other places. I really adore [livejournal.com profile] stonebender and [livejournal.com profile] misanthropoid -- they've done a LOT of legwork in getting me links to job sites and stuff.

Good luck and best wishes on your big adventure! Do you know what part of the bay area you'll be moving to, or does it all depend on jobs and so on?

Re:

Thanks! At this point, it depends entirely on jobs. I will move wherever I need to move to avoid a commute ([livejournal.com profile] someotherguy works from home).
