In response to [livejournal.com profile] therealjae's question, I've made a list of beliefs I held as a child, and http://www.iusedtobelieve.com has lots more fun stuff on this topic.

I thought the thing I heard when people said "cafe au lait" was "cafe ole'", and was a Spanish drink (I lived in Spain at the time).

I thought the bands came to the radio station to play their songs, and that they must record the chorus and replay it, because they wouldn't want to sing the same thing three whole times.

I thought the actors and actresses had their hands between their mouths during screen kisses so their lips wouldn't actually touch.

I thought if I wished hard enough, I would be able to start my life over at any age I wanted and make new decisions. I used to spend a LOT of time trying to make this one come true.

I thought that feeling when my hair was "squeaky clean" meant something was the matter, so I started rinsing my hair less well until I heard the phrase "squeaky clean" and the penny dropped.

I thought that homosexual men wanted to be women and homosexual women wanted to be men, and so I wondered why they weren't partnered with each other so there would still be a man and a woman.

I had that cafe' ole' thing too, and don't tell that homosexual bit to the president or he'll believe he's found a solution.

I thought that the "for which it stands" in the Pledge of Allegiance was "for witches' stands".

I actually liked saying the Pledge when I thought witches held a prominent place in it.
