Randomness
Feb. 6th, 2004 09:35 amYou may say there is, but right now I can't imagine that there's anything better than kettle chips and good chocolate soymilk.
Watched TMBG's "Direct From Brooklyn" (a compilation of their music videos, in reverse chronological order) last night, and it was really good. I fell asleep during the second run-through with the commentary, but still, it was fun. Earworm as I type this is "Don't Let's Start," but it was "Man, It's So Loud In Here" for most of the morning.
Gonna see Rickie Lee Jones with cute-poet-chick on Wednesday. Wheeee! Having dinner with her first, which makes me happy.
I miss Veglist. At its height, it was a vegetarian discussion listserv with 350+ members. It was busy and animated and friendly. Now there are maybe a dozen members, little or no traffic, and it's difficult to subscribe, so it's not getting better. I've thought of starting my own listserv, but maybe there's already something out there that I would love. Any ideas?
Stuff I've plugged away at a little at a time today because I've been too busy to do it all at once:
1. What's the most daring thing you've ever done?
Probably climbing down and then back up a high cliff.
2. What one thing would you like to try that your mother/friend/significant other would never approve of?
My mother is really unhappy that I'm moving. My friends and significant others support me no matter what I want to try/do/be.
3. On a scale of 1-10, what's your risk factor? (1=never take risks, 10=it's a lifestyle)
Stealing
pixiecrinkle's answer: Probably about a 6 or 7, but it depends on your definition of risk. If we're talking major adreneline-rush risks, it's probably lower, but if the more everyday risks were included, that number might go a bit higher.
4. What's the best thing that's ever happened to you as a result of being bold/risky?
Probably
stonebender
5. ... and what's the worst?
I was nearly killed.
1. Which icons do you have in your icon bar, Dock, or similar (or which applications do you have shortcuts to on your desktop)?
In my icon bar, it goes: Desktop, Explorer, Calculator, Acrobat, KeyCaps, IMS (work program), Outlook, Terminal Services Client
On my desktop: My documents, My computer, a scanned document for work, recycle bin, my network places, blank text document, outlook, start my backup shortcut, check or erase backup shortcut, white elephant party rsvp list, consumables requisition (excel sheet), and two folders: "misc. scanned documents" and "other shortcuts"
2. What windows do you have open right now?
Outlook, Terminal Services Client, Two IE windows (
futabachan's LJ is in one; my email popup notifier is in the other), this document (I'm composing in notepad), a windows explorer window, my supply order task in outlook, and acrobat.
3. What's your desktop image?
Right now, it's blank. It shouldn't be -- I had this image there before I restarted my computer, but now it's gone. I'll put something up there when I get around to it.
4. What theme or color scheme do you have your window decorations set to?
The default.
5. What's your browser's home page set to?
webmail.serenepages.org
6. Which newsgroups are you subscribed to at the moment?
alt.polyamory and soc.bi

Date: 2004-02-06 09:48 am (UTC)Woah, newsgroups - it's funny, I had just been wondering out loud recently whether Usenet even really existed anymore as a place that people continue to dialogue through. I used to spend a lot of time reading newsgroups in the mid-90s, but as WWW became more popular and web-based message boards became prominent, I kind of drifted away from the newsgroup world. It's somehow kind of reassuring to me that people are still using newsgroups. :)

Date: 2004-02-06 09:53 am (UTC)Oh, and newsgroups -- yep, still alive and kicking. I do mostly social groups, but the whole gamut is still out there, and pretty useful. At various times, I've been subscribed to as many as 50 at a time, but I always read at least the two I'm on now, and have for five years.
