Still loving the idea of getting all my books (70 so far) into mediachest so I can keep track of them all. The idea is hampered a bit by the implementation, sadly -- I can't have multiple copies of the same book! Can you imagine?

The mediachest geeks are trying to be helpful about this, but I sense that they don't really see it as a problem. Still, I think if I keep pestering them, they may come up with a solution. Am I crazy to feel that any book-organizing software that will only let me have one of any one thing is not going to be useful for actual organizing? (Really; tell me if it's crazy. I can take it.)

oh no hon...you are so right! (this from the queen of multiple copies)...if they're offering a service, it may as well be a *complete* service. ::nods::

Thanks! I told one of the programmers over there that I want to catalog my *actual* collection -- not the collection they'll allow me to own. :-)

I'd probably just use a standard database, personally. Although I also probably wouldn't bother. A gazillion years ago, I catalogued my collection on (*gasp*) index cards. It took forever, and I don't think I ever referred to the index after I finished it.

Oh, if this were only for my organizing, I'd use a database, but I like the community-building aspect, too. I want to be able to lend out my books and borrow others', but I want to know things like "I've lent out one copy of The Maverick Poets, but the other copy is still on my shelf."
