hiya, strangers

I've been here almost a month, now, and I think I've finally reached that place where I have a little free time from time to time. (time time time, see what you've done to me)

I was gonna drive down to san diego this weekend, but my mom offered to buy me a plane ticket to go in a couple of weeks, so I would have more actual time there with them. my mom rocks. my fingers are tired from cleaning, so sorry about the dearth of caps.

anyway, today I have been cleaning. getting the kitchen spotless is a prerequisite to baking bread, which I'm gonna do soon. also a prerequisite is buying some loaf pans and a few other things. so far, so good. I calibrated the oven, and it's right on, which is immediately an improvement over my last place, where the oven and fridge both fluctuated so much that I was afraid sometimes to eat in my own kitchen.

so today I will bake, catch up on email and lj and usenet, and relax some. tomorrow, stonebender and I will either see a movie or do something else. and monday I get to go to work (that was in question for a little bit -- they like me there, but there was some administrative paperwork mess that was endangering my assignment. I think it'll be fine.)

Stuff that's happened recently:

1) The move went relatively smoothly. we love our new place.
2) we don't have the money or time to fix up the place quite the way we want right now, but we've got ideas.
3) stonebender and his partner bought me this!
4) I met bayarts! (We went to a book signing for this book, which is poetic and beautiful so far.
5) I got the chance to go bead-shopping with firecat. someotherguy tagged along, which I hope was okay, but I think we all had a good time.
6) We actually get to see sogwife and stonebender more often than every month or two!
7) I have unlimited long-distance to the US and Canada -- I can call intenselaura whenever I want! :-)
8) Lots of little details like all the cool stuff that's near us, and all the nonsense in trying to work out my insurance situation, will be left for future boring posts. :-)

There's probably more, but I'm off to clean some more, at least for a while.

It really is the best mixer I've ever owned. Even better than my old one, another Kitchenaid. I expect to have this puppy forever.
