Jun. 5th, 2004 08:34 pmThe City, Not Long After, by Pat Murphy: I liked this book, though post-apocalyptic science fiction/fantasy is not exactly a genre I love. The writing is solid, the characters fairly three-dimensional, and the main conflict timelessly topical. I had some problems with the plotting, especially what I consider to be a cop-out ending, but I truly enjoyed some of the Magical Realism stuff (and shrugged in disinterest at some of it, as well). Some really original stuff happens here, and Murphy clearly loves art and science, and I love that.
