So after I posted about the suckitude yesterday, life got suckier -- LOTS suckier -- for my family. I can't talk about the details, but this is world-shaking stuff, and we're all a bit shell-shocked, I think it's safe to say.

Once, a friend told me that I was too attached to appearing to have an easy life. I don't think that's true, but I do think that my mind/personality/heart/spirit/whatever tends to take difficult times and quickly head toward figuring out what's good in there to focus on. I don't think this is something I was taught, or something I worked on, so much as it's just my own personality's way of coping with hard times. It's been ever so for me, and I am not proud or ashamed of it -- it just is what it is, and I find myself grateful for it when times are at their hardest.

Anyway, I'm choosing today to focus on the happy things.

1) I got the kid into an art class at UC Berkeley
2) In the mail today was my piano book from childhood. It's IDENTICAL, except that they've updated it to include pointers to the CD that one assumes one may buy to augment the book. I've been going through the book, and I totally remember it. I have some sort of muscle memory for songs I haven't played in 30 years. This is giving me a huge amount of joy and nostalgia. I called and played a song for my mom, and it was a total deja vu for her, as well.
3) I totally love my job. I mean, utterly. Every day there is a joy.
4) That said, I have four days off starting tomorrow, which, hello? Woo-hoo!
5) Some day, I will die, and then nothing bad can ever happen to me again. </dark humor>

What's good about YOUR day?

Uh-oh. I hope your world stops shaking soon and that most stuff was nailed down. :/

It sounds to me like your friend was accusing you of fronting, and I don't buy it. I think you're attached to seeing the good in your life, and I think that's a really good thing!
