Nov. 29th, 2004 08:24 pmMy answers. As usual, I wrote the survey without thinking about what I would answer to the questions, so this may take a while:
>1. Tell about a really important piece of advice you received in the past.
Not so much a piece of advice as a question that changed my way of thinking. I was raised mostly by my mom, who was easily overwhelmed and snowed by her kids, and "in a minute" was our favorite way to answer a request of hers. And if I didn't do something she wanted me to, I would say "I was gonna do that" and she would just get frustrated and do it herself. When my parents split up, I lived with my dad for a while because I thought it would be easier. One day, I was supposed to have done the dishes, and he came into the kitchen and saw that they were not done. I said "I was going to do those," and he said, "Why didn't you?" and no one had ever responded that way to that before, and it just kicked my ass. Since then, I've tried to be the one who *did* that rather than the one who was gonna.
>2. Given all the money, happiness, and time you need, what would
>your typical day look like?
A lot like now, but I would do MUCH, much more traveling. And I would have help with the housework.

>3. Tell about a book that you keep returning to. What is so special about it?
I rarely reread books, but I have read The Color Purple several times. Every time, it's better and richer, though it's an easy read and, on the surface, a simple book.
>4. If you could have a conversation with one person tomorrow, and
>convince that one person of one thing, who/what would it be?
Dubya would wake up the day after tomorrow deciding that his new mandate from God was to put an end to global conflict.

>5. Is there a spot on your body that's not normally considered an
>erogenous zone, but it drives you crazy? What is it?
Not sure if the neck is considered one, but that and the crook of my elbow are sure-fire.
>6. _______________ was the best $5.00 I ever spent. (Or, if you're
>not in the US, use an amount that's equivalent-ish -- there's a
>currency converter at http://www.xe.com/ucc/ )
>7. Imagine you have to go to work every day, in an office, with
>people you like. What work are you likely to be doing? (I'm looking
>to avoid answers like "Staying home with my family," or "Finishing my
>novel while I websurf," etc.)
Something clerical. Sounds dumb, but I just love being a secretary-type person, and I could do it forever if it paid well enough.
>8. Name a fictional character whose life seems like one you'd love.
>What is it about that life that attracts you?
I just finished _Their Eyes Were Watching God_ (http://www.powells.com/cgi-bin/biblio?inkey=1-0060931418-29), and I love how Janie follows her bliss, and then when it turns out to be less than blissful, heads in another direction after a happiness that other people don't understand.

>9. Name three things that help pull you out of a funk.
Letting myself be in the funk for a while without beating myself up about it; crawling under the covers and reading for a while; creamy foods.
>10. Name four people who have seen you at your worst and still stuck
>by you. (If you don't feel like naming names, don't. Use pseudonyms
>or, hell, skip it if you want. :-)
I'll skip it. Too many people. I'd forget some.
