early morning
Jan. 9th, 2005 04:43 amSpent the night at
stonebender's because
someotherguy and
sogwife are up north and my lights were acting funny -- I so did not want to be alone in my apartment with no lights (and no phone -- ours runs on electricity), so I came back here almost as soon as I'd left. It was great. Ate dinner, watched a few episodes of "Alias", and just had a generally wonderful evening. I am really at home when I'm here. Sitting around the table after dinner felt like a million family dinners in the past, and I'm grateful for it.
Now it's 4:45 in the morning, and I'm playing around with my websites. My vanity site seems almost obsolete, though I think I will put my writing back up there, among other things, and continue to host my pictures there. I am starting from scratch, and that's kind of fun. Mostly, though, my online life happens here and at the new blog, which a cool friend has kindly syndicated at
reluctant_vegan (because I had already used the username without the underscore and then deleted the journal when I decided to do it at blogger).
Today, I am supposed to meet wombats for lunch, but I'm not certain I will have the social energy, especially if my other option is cocooning with my spice in my own home. I am becoming a real contradiction: I do more socially than I ever have before, but I also sometimes feel I hole up in my home more. How does that work?
Work was fine. It's going to be Mon/Weds/Fri for the time being, about 20 hours a week, and that may end up being perfect. I needed a little money for bills, but not a ton, and I feel these days that time at home is more precious than money, so having four days off a week is an incredible gift. If it's not too stormy tomorrow, I may try commuting by bus/BART just to see if it's easy. I don't have to be in until 8:30 or 9:00. The work is fairly dull, but I've never minded that, and the people are very nice. (Also, the pay is the same as it was at FedEx, which is to say decent.)
Tuesday, I'm all about getting a hotel nailed down for apc13 and picking up my new desk from
mactavish's, if I haven't already done it by today.
Thursday, I'm probably hanging out at
stonebender's.
