First try: 72% -- average error, 96 miles; time, 554 secs., 36/50 perfect.

2nd try: 80% -- average error, 64 miles; time, 384 secs.; 40/50 perfect.

I think if it would clear the puzzle before placement, it would be more of a geography thing than a puzzle thing, but still, I like it.

I'd say no one could ever get 100% unless the coastal/border states all came up before the inner ones, because even if you know basically where each inner state goes, you're not going to get them to line up absolutely perfectly without anything to put them against. But I just tried it and got 90% and 13 miles.

It does give you a little wiggle room for "perfection". Yay, you!

OK, I tried a second time and got 96% and 2 miles. Picture me looking like the fourth panel of this comic (http://galactanet.com/comic/257.htm) (but somehow managing to avoid the fifth!).

Well, I got Nebraska as like my second state, and I managed to place it correctly, somewhat to my surprise.

I got 90% with an average error of 39 miles in 355 seconds. It was just like doing the US map jigsaw puzzle I had when I was a kid, but I got really stuck on Tennessee because none of the surrounding states were down yet.
