I'm thinking of going to DHP next month, but I've never been and I'm a little nervous about going for the first time. (New social situations are pleasant-but-difficult for me.) Anyone going who knows me and wants to plan to meet me there? (I may have a partner or two in tow, but I was hoping someone who had already been would kind of buddy up with me. :-)

Okay, though, this is now three people I've heard express nervousness about going to the DHP. WTF? It's not Black Sheets, it's not a gathering of The Beautiful People; it's a bunch of nerdly folks who like to get together regularly to talk & hang out in a hot tub & eat chocolate & maybe dress a little bit nicer than usual but often not. Really, that's all. And the people are friendly & generous & nice.

I've never seen the makeout piles. You young folks start that stuff way too late in the evening for me. (I don't believe there is much of that till way after midnight, but I stand ready for correction.)

Anyway Serene, so many of your friends go to it!

And like vito says, it is 'just a party'. Perhaps a party on steroids, or a superparty, or a hyperparty, but it is a party.

I guess they do start fairly late--but not always after midnight. Sometimes more like 10 or 11, I think.

Oh, for me it's strictly that it's a party whose hosts I haven't met (and I count knowing someone online as "meeting" them -- I don't know the hosts really at all, except in the barest fashion). That to me constitutes a social situation new enough that I feel nervous "crashing" it even though I'm theoretically invited. Does that make any sense? It's not a huge deal -- I plan to go anyway -- but I will feel less nervous if I know friends will be there.
