Randomness today:

In the "I already know the answer to this question" department, is it wrong that the best thing about both of my jobs is the number of truly gorgeous women I get to look at?

Made catfish (and oven fries and turnip greens) for dinner, with my family's traditional trashy tartar sauce. It's just three parts mayo, one part sweet relish, but as long as I live, that will be "real" tartar sauce to me. Also made homemade cocktail sauce from ketchup, horseradish, and lemon juice. Way yummy. Trashy food rocks.

Really got pissed at a mom at work today. Two-year-old daughter was standing in the kidseat of the shopping cart. I said "Sit down, sweetie," and another customer said "I'm worried about her" -- the mom was not within arm's reach. The mom turned around and said, "Don't worry about her. She's driving me crazy and she deserves what she gets." Later, mom was halfway across the store while baby was standing in the kidseat and yelling for mom. I went to mom and said, "I really need you to stay with your children" (there was another child in the cart), and it's only by sheer force of customer service juju I was able to send that woman away from my department happy and not dead. The feat involved a ladder, that's all I'm sayin'.

Old man came by while I was stocking shelves. "Is there anything I can help you find?" "A new wife?" "Well, you may have to buy me dinner a few times first, but..." "*laugh* But what will my current wife think?" (Okay, so now it's creepy, but I had thought he was a widower or something.) "Well, I've got two husbands, so I'm not the one to ask about that."

Provided UC Berkeley doesn't call me in this week (and I'm fine if they do), I will have nearly three days off. In a row. Oh, *man*. (I clocked out at 7:30 this evening, and I'm not due in again until 6pm Thursday. Whee! Tomorrow with [livejournal.com profile] stonebender. Wednesday with [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy. Thursday cooking decent food for the week. When I'm not home, there's less healthy food around to grab.

Enjoying alt.poly these days. Looking forward to alt.polycon, which is happening way too soon.

My birthday is in September, the day after [livejournal.com profile] dryadgrl's. We were talking about maybe having a joint party. Maybe a pool party, or maybe something else. Any opinions on what the weather will support?

September's the nicest time here, the fog's mostly gone, the days are short enough that they're not fiercely hot. The weather should support a pool party.

"Well, I've got two husbands, so I'm not the one to ask about that."
Just out of curiousity, did he reply to that statement?

Yep.

Him: "What did you do, divorce one and marry the other?"

Me: "Nope, we're a bunch of hippy freaks. We do the concurrent thing."

Him: "Ah, I see. Well, my wife wants a spatula with a metal handle because she hangs it on a magnetic holder."

I love this. Even (maybe especially) with the "um, well, let's talk about something else" at the end.

Even in California, you'd probably better make sure to invite womeone who has a medical need. And don't tell the Feds.

If you don't blab, I won't. Then again, can I really trust you? After all, I have a sneaking suspicion you hold a grudge about the shoe thing. Hmm.

Well, slapping her senseless would've been more fun, but thanks. :-)

There are a fair number of them where I work, too.

LOL

my first thought would certainly have been that the wife he had had brought him there and was annoying him. good exchange though, i thought.

yet more evidence that we almost had the same mom--that is my tartar sauce recipe only i use dill relish. and can't stand sweet relish. that's how i would make cocktail sauce, too.

i see through your little ruse of trying to tempt me westward--don't think i don't.
