My reality check may have bounced
Jul. 13th, 2005 12:44 amSo last week some time, I apologized to
someotherguy for not helping with the housework. He said, "You've been working 60 hours a week. I would feel guilty if you were also doing the housework."
Tonight:
Me: "I am really enjoying my lazy evening. I haven't gotten anything done, but it's been so nice."
Him: "Um, well, you did make dinner, and do laundry, and walk to the grocery store..."
Me: "Oh yeah, huh. But I intended when we got home to put away all the laundry and do all the dishes, and I've only put away one bag of laundry and done one load of dishes."
Him: *stares at me for a minute in amused disbelief* "Yeah, only half of all the housework. I think that's a lot."
I think maybe I need to let go of some compulsion or something. Imagine that. (And by the way, I hope I never take for granted that there are never housework arguments in this house. Those were a huge problem at some time in my past, and I am happy to be quit of them. I have wonderful partners who carry their weight, and sometimes mine, too. I'm lucky.)
