it's the little things, kinda
Jul. 26th, 2005 11:56 pmLike being home long enough to get the kitchen clean enough that hanging a spice rack feels like a fun task.
Silly, I know, and so much less important than other stuff in my life right now, but it made me happy.
Feel like there's stuff I don't feel comfortable posting here these days, but it's happy stuff, so that's okay. Basically, a very good day. Actually, two very good days in a row. This is a good thing. A very good thing.
(Milestones today: Cute-poet-chick's birthday -- no tears, but some longing. Also, two and a half years tonight since I met
someotherguy. Also, I've been at Ikea for six weeks today, and I've started actually liking it there.)
And let me just say a huge thank you to
wild_irises, who has been such a good friend to me, and continues to look out for me. I am a lucky woman.
I was looking around my apartment today and realizing how much of what I see/use/have every day is the result of a gift from someone who loves me, or at least treats me in what I perceive as a caring/loving way.
The table our tea set sits on was a gift from Munchkin The Elder, who made it. Some of zir art also hangs in our place.
Gifts from my oldest friend hang on my walls.
sogwife made the curtains, the cushion cover, and some of my favorite clothes; she also painted the table and took (and matted/framed) my favorite picture of me and
someotherguy. In addition, of my two favorite pieces of jewelry, she made one.
porcinea made the other.
Some of the clothes I wear are courtesy of
lcohen, as are fully half the earworms.
greywolf_ and
mysticallady gave us the first in what would become a sphere collection.
My mother gave us the mirror, lots of our clothes, this computer I'm working on, and so much more.
The car I drive is an extremely generous long-term loan from
stonebender,
loracs, and
dbubley. The boxes we're organizing things into this week also came from them, as did my mixer, my grain grinder, and every single thing we lived on in the weeks before our stuff arrived in the Bay Area. Yay for loved ones who bring coffee cups and toilet paper!
My laptop desk was a gift from
someotherguy. My writing desk was a gift from
mactavish.
someotherguy's desk and chair were a gift from
loracs.
kalmn provided one of the most-listened to CDs. So did
bratman. So did
loracs. So did
stonebender. And
someotherguy.
porcinea gave me the only non-vegetarian cookbooks I feel unable to part with.
eeyore_grrl gave me the plant that started my whole green-thumb revolution.
8768253 continued to feed my plant lust until the very moment she left town.
I could go on and on. And I'm not even gonna list the sex toys. :-)
Basically, everywhere I look, there's a sign of caring from someone I value. I can't go five feet in my home without seeing one, touching one, using one.
I am immensely lucky, and I know it.
