I've been mostly ignoring the tags thing. Can anyone tell me why I want
to use tags? Also, can anyone tell me if and how it's possible to go to a
user's (including one's own) LJ and see a list of their tags? If not,
what's the purpose of it? I'm unclear on the concept, and while I'm
heading over to read the FAQ on the subject, I'd also like to hear your
practical experience with the things.

(Also, if you know how to add tags in an email post, let me know, but I'll
probably see that in the FAQ too, I imagine.)

I've been trying to tag my older entries to sort them by genre: jokes, songs, politics, brilliant ideas etc. I think you can look up a persons tags on their info page but I'm not sure. If not, when someone posts with a tag, you can click on the tag and look up all the other entries under that tag.

I backed up to http://www.livejournal.com/users/calebbullen/tag/ and got a list. Thanks!

I'm just getting the hang of tags, but they're quick and easy, and automate some of the features of memories.

I'm way into them. I like them primarily because if I'm in a bad mood and want to gain some perspective, I can click on my "moods" tag and read about all the other bad and good moods I've had and also entries about how my moods change constantly. It helps give me perspective.

Also, if I want to put my Love Zine together at some point, I can click on entries tagged "love" and get a nice selection.

Or if I want to find poems or other writing, "poems" or "writing".

Also, if someone friends me because they like what I have to say about "veganism", now they can look at all my entries on "veganism".

Yeah. I dig them. A little too much. I've got all of 2005 and most of 2004 tagged already and I plan on doing the whole journal eventually. Cause I'm sick like that.

I've been mostly ignoring it too, but every so often I look for old entries, and lately when I do I've been adding tags to them so they're easier to find again.

Also, depending on what S2 style you're using, a list of the user's tags may be on their LJ page. (as in, y'know, livejournal.com/~person.) I've found it... not a terrible idea.

But I like memories better. Because I'm stubborn, and you can put other people's entries into memories. You can't tag other people's entries.

You can't tag other people's entries.

I mention this only for the sake of completeness, but when I first heard about tags it was through [livejournal.com profile] jwz's journal, and there is indeed an option that can be turned on to let other people tag your entries.

I think I have it on, it's hard for me to tell for sure.
