I got a bonus rental (customer-satisfaction bribe) from Netflix today, so I was checking out my queue, and browsing around, when I clicked on the link for "The Movies You Have Rated", and so I'm gonna list the movies I or someone in my household have given five stars. If you feel like it, go to your netflix queue or equivalent, and do the same (or equivalent). Alternatively, you could just list the movies you love. I have gotten some really good recommendations by asking that question in the past, so why not.

By the way, to me, five stars equals, as Netflix says, "I loved it", not "I thought it was a high-quality movie", necessarily.

If you liked Dogma, maybe you'll like Clerks.

was it you who gave fifth element five stars? it makes my little feminist heart shake with rage. it's pretty; i think the opera scene is brilliant, and i'll watch bruce willis in anything that isn't a war movie, but ugh.

No. I didn't like the movie. It was [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy. (In fairness, I should say I didn't like the parts I managed not to sleep through.)

Heh. I slept through most of it the first time I saw it, too. In all fairness to the movie, however, it WAS the 2nd of a double-feature, at the old Union City Drive in, which I saw as the first set of movies I'd gone to since Allegra was born. I was a tad sleep-deprived at that point. :^) (First movie of the double feature was MIB, not that you were actually wondering :^)

Sad. I think the ultimate message of the movie is wonderful. The Fifth Element, the one that is the key, is, of coure, LOVE. I can't say I adore the movie and would give it five stars, but I certainly am not in a state of rage over it.

that's not what i take the ultimate message of the movie to be at all, actually. but serene's lj is probably not the place to argue about it.

No argument, but a question: What DO you think the "Fifth Element" is, then?

As for "movies I love," this list leaves out Wings of Desire, L.A. Story, and most movies by Peter Weir.
