I can't believe how little time I've had for updating. Let's see what's
been noteworthy:

[livejournal.com profile] charliegrrrl Knocked. Our. Fucking. Socks. Off. last Thursday at
Nomad No-Mic. Goddess. The woman is a goddess. And her
book
is so good. And y'all know I don't say that lightly.

Tonight is Karen's turn to do the same, so come! I'll buy you coffee, and
I'll read a poem about sex or something.

I got my first assignment at the kick-ass contract job. Yay!

[livejournal.com profile] someotherguy put together another bookcase. Two down, many to go.

Going to San Diego in TWO WEEKS! Woo-hoooooo!

Went to the doc today. Same procedure as most docs -- note my perfect
blood pressure (110/70), get boggled, listen to my symptoms, claim to
think it's cool that I'm happy with my weight, suggest weight loss anyway.
But he's a good doc and he seems to get that I'm in charge of my health
care, so I'll keep him. Next week will be about getting tests on my blood
and joints and stuff. Also trying to decide if I'm gonna get a mammogram.
I'm leaning toward no. Thoughts?

More soon. Gotta go work.

I seem to have, somehow, found a GP who is entirely prepared to believe my blood pressure and not make speeches about my weight (110/70, 190 lbs; 13 stone 8 for my UK friends). If you were in New York, I'd recommend her. It probably helps that I've been seeing her for several years, so she now has a chart that shows that my weight is stable and my blood pressure is consistently good.

Mammograms aren't my idea of a fun afternoon, but in my experience they aren't horrible; not as bad as a thorough tooth-cleaning.

Assuming I don't already, can I have your doctor's info for my Fat Friendly Health Professionals list?

With the proviso that this is one patient's experience, sure:

Rodika Coloka-Kump, D.O.
530 West 236 Street
Bronx, N.Y. 10463

718-548-4560

They do weigh me, routinely, but the only thing they do with the number is record it in my chart. I think that if there were a major change in my weight from one visit to the next, the doctor would say something.

She shares her practice with another doctor, Osama Sayegh M.D., who I find generally brusquer, and hence who I see only if it's urgent and she's not in that day, but I haven't had problems with him related to weight either. Which means that, at a minimum, he has the sense to realize that you don't lecture someone about weight loss while treating pneumonia.

(They also have an office in Yonkers, N.Y., and sometimes when I call I'm asked whether I'm a Bronx or a Yonkers patient.)

Thanks much! I added your descriptions of the practice and how she treats you; if that's not OK I'll remove them. Also I can attribute you if you want.

Please do include the descriptions; that's why I posted them. Credit me as Vicki Rosenzweig, please.

re: mammogram--wait one more year and then get a baseline unless you suspect something is up, i would say.

Great minds think alike!

Exactly what I was going to say. Base line at 40, then every 2 years or so unless something shows up that needs to be tracked.

The doc said, when I said that, 35. I still think I may never get one. I'm not convinced early detection actually helps, or that mammogram constitutes early detection.

See you tonight.
